Re: Quick Question
it all depends on who the person is and how close you are.
I usually give a little more than approx. how much the plate costs.. so we cover a plates and then some.. if it's a close friend then I give more..
give what you can afford..

Re: Quick Question
are you going alone or with a guest? consider that too. if it is you and a guest, it's nice to try to cover the cost of both plates and then some.

Re: Quick Question
Give what you can afford based on your relationship with the bride and groom.
We usually use $250 as a jumping off point and give more if we are closer to the couple, less if have extensive travel expenses involved, etc.

Re: Quick Question
We usually give $200 for people we really don't know (distant relative, coutesy invite, etc.) $250 for general friends and family, and a little more for close friends, especially those in our bridal party that hae gotten married over the past year of so.
However, I think you should give what you can afford. If you can only afford $200 then only give that ammount. I'm sure they will understand that you are planning a wedding and are strapped for cash. Besides I personally think $200 is a very nice gift. It's nice to cover your plate and all, but it's really not the guests problem how much the bride and groom decided to spend per person. JMO

Re: Quick Question
I think it dpends too. I dont care where they have the wedding, it all depends on who they are. Relatives I will give $200. Or if what they gave me to my wedding, I reciprocate. Good friends we give about $250-300.

Re: Quick Question
it doesn't really matter to us who it is.. I mean i want to cover the plate and give enough that they have a 'gift' on top of it.. It's tough now.. but we have 7 weddings next year including ours.. so it should be fun and i should be poor!!!
