Quick Questions about using a vendor from CRAIGSLIST
I am going into the city today to meet a videographer - found him on cragslist and I loved his work...price & everything is what I was looking for.
Has anyone used a craigslist vendor before & how did you work it out w/ payment. Did you get references first??
We are going to meet him and I really don't know him from a hole in the wall... Did you give them a check for a deposit right away??
Any advice would be great - I am leaving in 20 minutes!! Thanks alot!

Just be careful. Get as much information on him as you can. Put as little money down. Just do your investigating. Ask for references. Etc.

I went to meet the videographer and I am going to use him. Nice young cool guy...
He is working with this photographer in NYC as his video person, so that was good news & he used to work for Discovery - so he wanted only $200 deposit...will send it this week.
He was a normal person - the last person we interviewed from Craigslist was an older man that looked like he came out of a cave and was drooling. I felt bad for him but he didn't do the type of work we wanted.
His least expensive package starts at $595 for 4 hours of taping w/1 DVD and he is going to see about advertising here - he is going to be on The Knot soon - but I told him the ladies here are cooler!

I have worked with many people from CL in other capacities. It can be an amzing tool...and can also hook you up with total psychos! Definitly get at least 3 references, and draw up a contract, even if it on a napkin! There are scam artisits who LOVE craigslist, and find it very useful for rpping people off. As long as you are CAREFUL and smart, you are good to go! Good luck.
...oops, just realized you already m et with him. Congrats! He sounds legit. Did you sign anything before sending deposit?

My best friend has started a videography business and she gets most of her work off of Craigslist. She does an amazing job and she's has amazing prices since isn't as well-known as other videographers. I got my trio for my ceremony music off of Craigslist, I asked for a sample and sent a small DP.
Most people are legit, just ask around and most importantly ask to see/hear a sample and for references.

If you like it go for it, but do your research. I'm a little wary of CL, there's just si much garbage on there. I've also seen some of the proofs from people who used lesser know photogrpahers and they bragged about how much they loved them and how great it was that they saved all this $$, but as a photographer, I saw such huge, glaring mistakes...one photographer that I'm thinking of shot the same pose 10 times, and used indoor fi;m outdoors and vice versa. I'm really picky about photography, with someone a lot of peope have heard of you can check around and ask, On CL it isn't so easy, but you can ask for references. I don't think I would take that chance on my wedding day, but that's just me. You may get lucky nad find a great undiscovered talent just be careful..and have someone who knows videography check out the work...

Re: Quick Questions about using a vendor from CRAIGSLIST
For photography I am booked - but for video, I thought he was really good - alot of the videos I saw were exactly what I didn't want...this guy was an editor for Discovery and now works on the weekend with this photographer http://www.funicostudios.com/
So now he is planning to advertise on The Knot and will be checking out liweddings next...
If anyone would like his name I would be happy to give it to you - even just so you can get an idea of what you do/don't want...
So I am sending him $ today and now I only have invitations and some other small details and I am ready to get married!!
