I want to put a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson at the top of our invitation, but don't know if I should actually quote it or just put it at the top. I'm making our invitations because we're sending out less than 25, but I want them to look formal. What is the appropriate way to put a quote at the top of an invitation? Can I just put it there without attributing it to its source?
Thanks.

Re: Quote at top of wedding invitation
We used a saying and did not list the source. I don't know the formal rules on this because our quote was kind of vague ('Special moments are meant to be shared...'). You could always list the source in much smaller print.

hmmm...that's a tough one. I think I would quote it just in case anybody was wondering where you got a nice quote from. Mine I picked out from the website where I ordered my invites and it said 'We will walk side by side hand in hand, forever...'.

I agree with LIJuneBride... write his name in much smaller print below the quote.

to be honest... i don't think we did either.... we asked several people... many authors are unknown anyway
it is not necessary because it is your wedding invitation if anything i would do quotes

Re: Quote at top of wedding invitation
it depends on the invite and how many lines are available for printing....
I had 2 lines to put a quote in and I had created it on my own: In the spirit of love and laughter as our love becomes forever after. . .'

Re: Quote at top of wedding invitation
I would put this source especially if you picked Emmerson for a reason. You don't have to put the work, but just his name, underneath, smaller print, right justified to set it off if possible.

Re: Quote at top of wedding invitation
I'm doing the invitations myself, so I'm not worried about the room for it. It's only two lines, really. We didn't pick the quote because it's Emerson, but because we liked it. I guess I'll put it in quotes and if anyone asks where it comes from, we'll tell them.
With a wedding of under 30 people, I don't imagine it'll be an issue, but I wondered what was standard/appropriate. Thanks!
