Maybe a nice pair of cufflinks to wear with the tux rather than the tux? It's a little easier on the budget and he might even get more use out of them. Although buying the tux is a nice gesture too! I thought most guys just rent them.

I will NOT be buying fh's tun and neither will he. He will never wear it again and in my opinion it is silly to buy it, we will just rent it

FH is getting his tux rental free from the tux place. He was considering buying it, but realized he wouldn't really have an occasion to wear it. A close friend is getting married this summer but he's going to be a groomsman and will prob have to rent the same tux as the rest of the guys.
We don't really go do any fancy events so it would just sit in his closet. Maybe one day... my dad has a tux and gets a lot of use out of it

So you already got him a gift. I wouldn't bother buying a tux unless you know for an absolute fact he'll get enough wears out of it to make it worth it.
FH is just renting, like Jess said, for him/us it would be a waste of money to buy it.
