Racoons fighting??

I just heard the most psychotic noise outside my house...actually, it was RIGHT next to my house..

It sounded like very, very high pitched squeaks, and growling...then more high pitched squeaks..at first I thought it was my bird going nutzo...but it wasn't...then it was clear that there were some animals fighting outside,

Whatever they were, I scared them by banging on my front door and running outside with a flashlight (this is all at 12:30 am...everyone is alseep!

I just hope whatever it was, it's not hurt .

I think it was racoons, because I keep seeing them around my house at night,,,has anyone ever heard these guys fight...does it sound at all like what I described?

Thanks...I was so freaked out not knowing what it was...but then I realized it was them, because not too long after I logged off, I started hearing the trashcans being messed around with.
