Rant - warning... long

Rant - warning... long

okay, so I live in Northern NJ and I'm getting married at the Crest Hollow Country Club. It's just occured to me in the past week that I have no way to get from NJ to LI the day before my wedding (we are staying at the melville marriott). My oot MOH is staying with me so we need to get myself, her, both our dresses and accessories from NJ to LI. My sister who is a doctor at LIJ is on call Friday night until 8:00 am Saturday morning, and unless my mother (I will get to her a minute) would stop being so selfish about having to drive from Manhassett to NJ to pick me up (only a 40 min drive), then my sister has to come from Huntington where she's on call to me in NJ to pick me up after she's worked all night.

NOW, my mother is giving me a hard time because we've all known she's coming in Wednesday (she lives in fla) and why aren't I coming to pick her up? Well, excuse me... I HAVE TO WORK!!! Then she wants me to make TWO trips to LI, Thurs and Fri. I have to be on LI Thurs to drop everything off at the CHCC and I had planned to go the cemetary to visit my grandfathers' graves before the wedding on that day. Well, my mother wants to go on Friday and I told her NO WAY am I making two trips! On top of that, one of the traditional jewish things I'm doing is going to the mikvah that Thurs night before my wedding. Well I'm going to one in NJ. My mother wants to know why I can't go in LI and if she went with me in NJ how is she getting back to LI. Why in the world does she even need to go with me?? It's supposed to be a private thing anyway and all she's going to do is sit in the waiting room.

Why is it, everything is about her? This is MY day. It's about ME. It's one of the only times in my life I will be able to say that. And where it's acceptable for me to be selfish like that!

Rant over....
(for now)

ETA: In addition to her KNOWING I have no way right now to get to LI, she calls me up and asks me to help a friend of hers that was invited to the wedding, find a ride there!

Here are some s

I thnk your mom just wants to be involved because her daughter is getting married. I had a lot of the same thing happening for my wedding this August. I really understand. You don't own a car? Well, I guess I would rent one for a few days and have someone return it for you. I think it would make you life easier.

why not call your limo company and see if they can help you get where you need to go in the days before the wedding? Maybe they'll even do an airport pick-up for your mom.

Thanks ladies - I do own a car. But FH will have his car at the wedding and I don't want to have two cars there, because I really dont' want to drive home by myself after my wedding!

The limo company I'm using is dynasty limo's who is in Islip I believe. I just think it's selfish of my mother to expect my sister who will be coming off a 24 hour shift at the hospital to come pick us up in NJ. My mother seriously makes everything about herself and is always the victim...she claims we do all this on purpose to upset her.

I don't think it's a matter of helping either, because she hasn't done one thing to help this entire time, and all she's done is complain about everything I've done and how I've done it.

My advice is to tell your mother to get a grip and get her A$$ out there to pick you up or try to rent a car one way to LI.

Sorry you're having so much trouble.

It's actually somewhat a jewish tradition, you're supposed to go and invite your deceased realatives to your wedding. Or something like that. But I decided to take it one step further. My parents are giving me a prayer book to carry with me during the ceremony, both my grandfather's have passed and I was also fortunate enough to know my great grandparents (my mother's grandparents on my grandfather's side). So I'm putting in the pages between the prayer book pictures I have with my grandfather's and my great grandparents, so they're all there with me under the chuppah on my wedding day.

Whew! I'm glad I was able to get through that, I cry about it everytime I think about it. I'm what you woudl call a very emotional bride.

I would call for a car service to take you to Long Island. A car service will probably cost between $100-$200 but it will give you piece of mind. Don't leave too late in the day unless you will hit tons of traffic. I think this would be the easiest and least stressful solution.

Thanks - Unfortunately, that's not an option. I'm sure it would cost more than $100 -$200. It's just not in the budget, and we just can't sqeeze that out at the moment. It's costing me $200 to use a limo to go from the Melville Marriott to the Crest Hollow Country Club!

My family is working on solutions....
