So, for the past couple of weeks I have been in a rather depressive state. I get like this every once in a while, but it goes away after a couple of days. This has been going on for a while now, and is just not letting up. I have nothing in particular to cause me to be like this. So, I've been thinking about going to see a therapist. I went years ago, and actually enjoyed going. However, now that I live in Mineola, it's not convenient to see my old therapist as she's in Brooklyn.
My question is, does anyone have recommendations for a good therapist in Nassau, preferrably close to Mineola? I know this can be personal, so please feel free to FM me. I just hate the idea of finding one from a book and not knowing anything about them.
TIA!!

How about trying acupuncture? There is an office in Mineola for acupuncture.

Well can your therapist see you on the wknds? Maybe you can go then. Once a week to travel out to Blyn is not that bad. Could you do that?

Re: Rather personal, recommendations needed
If you really liked your old therapist trying calling there for a recommendation or call your primary care for a recommendation. I know of one but she is alllllll the way out east (wading river) so I dont think that will help you.
Good Luck!

Can your old therapist recommend anyone out in Mineola? Sorry, but I don't know of anyone off-hand.

I know one, her name is Mashika and she has plenty of 'feel good things' for you
No, in all seriousness, I'm so sorry you've been feeling down. I don't know of anyone but hopefully someone on here will have a good recommendation for you

Oh, I can't wait to try out my new 'feel good things',
Thanks girls! I didn't even think about asking my former therapist for recommendations, makes perfect sense!

Re: Rather personal, recommendations needed
I went to a psychologist in bayside that assessed me for my ADD but she also specializes in mental health. If it's not too far for you let me know and I'll give you her contact info.

just sent them to you
Also when looking for one i would suggest one that is a psychologist, they are better trained in therapy and counseling then a social worker

I believe that Psychiatrists - prescribe medicine and many dont actually do therapy they just see you to see how the medications are doing, you stil have to go to a pssychologist or social worker for the therapy part of it
Psychologists are trained in therapy and couseling (depending on their specialties)
though NYS is trying to pass legislation to allow pschologists to prescribe medication - which i think would be better since they see you regularly for therapy they should be seeing and hadleing your medication /dosages as well

just to piggy back too... im in school for social work as we all possibly kno and currently with my school and program they are pushing for more training bc SW never had anything... but the training is SPECIFIC... where as your FH would be good with ALL ppl... me, im workign on councling, therapy training in substance abuse and family therapy, group therapy...
just my two cents... and also its sooo tough to find someone that fits ur needs.... so i woudl suggest to shop around also... make sure you click with who ever you see, thats so important to have that initial connection...

They say feeling 'blue' for more than two weeks can be a sign of clinical depression. I applaud you for seeking help -- it takes a strong person to do so. If the first therapist ***** or isn't a good match, don't give up. Try again. Good Luck!

ALOT of woman I have Ive talked to lately are saying the same thing as well as myself. They say its just the winter blues and I personally think that has alot to do with me. IT gets dark early, its cold and its been sooo rainy/snowy lately.
