rawhide???

rawhide???

I have heard that this is not good for dogs... why??

They sell it all over and the vet said it was ok as long as it is in moderation.

Whats the deal?

also.. did I tell you guys that when we took him to the vet they told us he is too chubby??!??

I was sooo upset . He only eats 3/4 cup of food a day

So they told us to switch him to adult food and lay off the treats (but we usually give him peices of food as treats)

my dog gets an upset tummy when he eats rawhide. I have a lot of it left but I don't give it ti him anymore. So, if anyone wants rawhide, just ask!

I think this is why you hear that Rawhide isnt good for the dogs! Some had a problem digesting it!
Our dog doesnt seem to have any issues and she LOVES her rawhide so I do give it to her but if I leave it with her during day, I will then take it away for like 2-3 days! For her its like a treat and I dont worry about her getting too much!

From what I have read there are several problems with rawhide. The first is that it can be a choking hazard. Since it gets soft and gooey, dogs can bite off large chunks that can get loged in their throats. Compressed rawhide is a good alternative if your dog can digest it, another problem many dogs have with rawhide. I also read that it can carry bacteria and that most rawhide is treated with lots of nasty chemicals. All those things were enough to keep me away from it. I give my pup bully sticks (I know it's a gross concept, but better than rawhide) and marrow bones, instead of rawhide. If you are going to give rawhide, I think compressed it safer. Do some searches on the net. I think there's a lot posted about rawhide out there.
