RC Church/FH woes/ kind of long

Hi Ladies-

It's nice to be back on the boards - I took a break due to FH church drama described below:

Here's my question: Is it possible for me and my FH to get married in the Catholic Church if he never made his Communion or Confirmation?

The thing is, we went to see the priest like 2 months ago, and at the time my FH signed up for relisgious ed classes so that he could make his Holy Communion and Confirmation sacraments. (He was only baptized). We were really excited but then the priest never called us like he said he would. So we called him, and he never called back. My FH REFUSES to call the priest again, he thinks it's so rude that he never called us (or returned our call) and now he wants nothing to do with the sacraments. He's totally tunred off! I can't say I blame him, but I still want to be married in the church.

I know you can have a mass or just a ceremony - maybe I have just a ceremony if FH can't receive communion? Help!!
Thanks!

I think as long as you have made your confirmation then he does not have to do any of it. I'm getting married in a catholic church and my FH is jewish and as long as I was comfirmed they had no problem with this. We are only having a ceremony. His brother married a girl who was also catholic and they had a full mass. I think it depends on the church and priest hope this helps

If you are the Catholic and you've made your sacraments, that's all that counts. My FH has only been baptized and is not Catholic. You just need proof from the church that you completed your sacraments. The church will have your records.

The part about him receiving communion I'm not sure about. I don't think you can receive communion in a Catholic church unless you're Catholic. I guess I'll have to look into that too!

My FH is Luteran and I'm RC. He has proof of his Communion/Confirmation (all in one in the Lutheran church) but not of his Baptism (it was a strange hippie priest in Colorado). Our priest OK'd it. He also said that both the Luteran's and RC's could receive communion if we were going to have a mass, but we're having a ceremony. I don't know if that helps.

I think it depends on the church....I think that they can tell him that he has to have his communion and confirmation, or they can choose to let him get married there without it. I was baptized and received my communion, but I was never confirmed. I did not want to get confirmed either (my FH has done it all though)...One church told me NO WAY - you have to get confirmed, and another church did not have a problem with it.

Thanks you guys - I guess I'll have to check with our priest and see what he's willing to do - at this point FH is so disgusted by the whole thing and wants
to get married by a judge, so I'm trying to salvage it. Wish me luck!

I agree, I think it depends on the church.

For example, my FI's church would not marry him there because he was only baptized. My church will marry you so long as you were baptized (do not need to have completed confirmation)....

If you want to use your/his church and they require more than baptizmal, you will need to complete it.

oh, and we are not having a mass, so I dont know about if you would be able to. I dont see why not, he just shouldnt receive confiramtion.

I think you can definitely have a ceremony. My FH isn't even Catholic but we are getting married in a RC church.

My FH isn't RC but a form of Christianity and all he needed was to be baptized.
It depends if your FH is RC or not. If you are RC I believe. You MUST do confirmation before marrying in a RC church (don't quote me on this).

I suggest you keep calling your priest even though he says he will call you. They tend to be forgetful.... I have problems getting a hold of my own priest-a whole other issue for me.

You can get made in the Catholic Church as long as your FH was baptized. My best friend had the same problem but as long as her FI (at the time) was baptized then they were able to get married in the Catholic Church. The only thing is that she could only have a ceremony and not a full mass.
