RD Placecards?

I tried a search on this and couldn't find a post. Do I need place cards for the RD? B/c of out of towners we're now having almost 30 people.

It all depends how relaxed or formal you want to make it. We are having a relaxed RD so we are not doing place cards.

However, a friend of mine is having 40 people and it is formal, so she is doing place cards.

I have never seen placecards at a rehearsal dinner, even the larger ones I've been to (up to 50 people).

I actually think it's not a bad idea. We got to our rehearsal dinner and seating was chaos!! People kept asking me where they should sit and I wish that I hadn't had to deal with it that night.

I had placecards at my RD & the reason I did it was so that certain people sat together & everyone had a place to sit. We were just at an RD where there were no placecards & me & my DH ended up sitting with the brides family because someone sat with our friends. We ended up standing until everyone else sat down so that we knew we weren't taking anyones seats. Also certain family members didn't get to sit together because there were only a certain amt of chairs at each table. I think it makes it so much easier. JMO

I also had placecards at my rehearsal dinner. I had about 50 guests and it just made it so much easier, especially since my husband's parents are divorced and there were 2 sides of his family involved.

I don't remember whether we actually had place cards, but we assigned people to tables. We wanted all of our family and friends to get to know each other better so we mixed everyone up. It worked out really well and everybody got along great.
