re: Bounced check for a gift???

OKay so we received a check as a gift for our engagement party from the friend / roommate of FH's cousin (the cousin who is in the wedding party). He gave a us a $50 check and we deposited it about a month and a half after we received it......now the check bounced and the bank charged us $60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do I do????????

I would let him know that it had happened but he will probably know sooner or later when his bank gets a notice. He was probably guaranteeing you to deposit it right away and maybe he didn't have the funds when you deposited 6 weeks later. It happens but it would be good to maybe let him know and it stinks that you guys get hit with the fees for something someone else did.

He will find out through his bank. I would not say anything.

His mother will see who the check was sent to.

I forgot to mention this...the check wasn't in his name I think it was his mothers. He no longer lives at home he know lives w/ my FH's cousin and he is 23 so I don't know if his mother told him?

we got one for our wedding.....we actually tried to cash it again and it bounced again (I was kinda pissed which is why I tried again b/c my bank didn't charge us anything for it) BUT I got phone call a few weeks later apologizing for it and that a new check is coming......six months later, still nothing!

the person will soon find out they bounced it and get a 30 dollar or so charge for it....

This happened to my brother at his wedding. I wouldn't say anything. The person will find out soon enough. Let them be the one to come to you. If they never do, you come come across as a much bigger person for never haveing mentioned it to them and embarrassing them. I think they will think of you as being classy about the situation.

I know I should be the bigger person and let it go....but now I feel like he came to my e-party ate food, drank....basically didn't give a gift and I paid him $60 to come along!

This has NOT been my week. I want to trade it in for the next one.

You have to let it go. Maybe the money was actually in the bank at the time of the party. I am sorry to hear that though.

Maybe you should let him know, I know that I am a bad when it come to balancing my checkbook.. Depositing it a month later might be the reason why it was returned
