Hey girlies - we are buying a great condo in Brooklyn.
I spoke with a lawyer recommended to me by friends of mine who used him to close on their co-op. He charges a flat rate of $1600 from start (examination of prospectus and contract) all the way to finish (closing). He really explained things well to me and sounded like a super-nice guy who knew his stuff.
What do you all think? Is that a good price?

Re: RE lawyer price?
Way too much IMO. And I am a Queens Guy.
I wouldn't pay more than $1000 buks for the lawyer... plus any additional fees (like a title search).

Re: RE lawyer price?
That sounds like a lot to me. I think we paid about $800. My husband and his family have used him for several things. He is very good!!! It is important to use a good lawyer. The person who was selling us the house used a lawyer that was recommended by the realtor and he was awful. He held up the closing a lot.
You can FM me if you want his name and number. His office is in Syosset.

Re: RE lawyer price?
I paid $750 two years ago when I purchased my co-op. He is a very well establised attorney on LI and gave me loads of advice. I believe there is no title search with a co-op, but if your place is a condo, then there is. Although, it should not impact the attorney's fees that greatly.

There is still a title search for co-ops. And getting a lawyer referral from your realtor or broker is probably the WORST place to get one from.
