Re: MOB dress

So, my FMIL bought her dress for our wedding. She ended up buying a dress that is the color my mother mentioned she would like to wear. My mother hasn't even started to look at dresses yet. I thought the mother of the bride had first choice of what she wanted to wear? I could be wrong but a couple of people mentioned this to me. I am not really annoyed but just a little disappointed because the color my FMIL chose was something my mother was considering. I mentioned this to my FMIL because she didn't want to show anyone her dress because she wanted it to be a surprise.. which is so odd to me, since it's MY wedding!! She responded by saying we can both wear purple. I was like no.. that wouldn't look right IMO.

What are your thoughts?

TIA!!

I think it was a little inconsiderate of her to go out and buy something before you mom, but was there communication? Did she know exactly what she was suppose to do?

Don't worry about, in the long run it won't really matter. My MOG is wearing emerald green, my girls are wearing euro red, put them together you have christmas colors, put me in the right spot we have an Italian flag..

I was fuming, but i promised myself i wouldn't let things i can't honestly control ruin my day...

ps. there was lots of communication on that one with colors!!

Re: Re: MOB dress

My fmil stayed away from the color my mom was originally interested in and vica versa. It worked out that they both wound up in colors they hadnt considered!
I think its a little rude since your fmil knew but since your mom hasnt started shopping yet I wouldnt say anything to fmil that might get her annoyed. There is nothing that can be done now. How do you think your mom will handle it? was she set on that color or willing to try something else?

ETA. Your mom should start looking! We are getting married the same week, my mom ordered her dress in August and they said it wont be here till Mid December

Re: Re: MOB dress

well both my mom and FMIL are wearing black
i don't really think it is fair to say who gets first choice.... yes it is your mother but it is also the man you are marrying...his mother...JMO

i am sorry you are hurt by this

maybe your mom can weara different shade of purple if it bothers you

Re: Re: MOB dress

She, FMIL, never mentioned anything to me about what color she wanted. I never mentioned to her the color my mother mentioned to her either. I am not making a big deal out of it.. honestly.. she can wear whatever she wants. I just feel bad because my mom has been so accomodating to me and FH both financially and mentally. She has not challenged me on anything I said I wanted. All she does is smile and say go for it. The one thing she said she wanted now is up in the air. I know this will all work out.. not a big deal.

Thanks for listening!!

I think its also that my mother ordered a 'Wedding dress' b/c my FMIL ordered her dress the day before my mom and hers is coming in November.

Re: Re: MOB dress

I understand you being annoyed, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Yes, ettiquette says the MOB is supposed to buy her dress first, but it doesn't always work like that. My FMIL bought her dress before my mom and it's a good thing she did. It wound up taking my mom a long time to find a dress she loved and it would have been unfair to ask FMIL to wait. And if it makes you feel any better about the color situation, my FMIL bought a creme colored dress and my gown is ivory. What can you do.
