Re-Posting POLL:Photography/Video:what would YOU do?
My poll didnt post on my other thread, so I am re-posting....
Ok...I am lookingfor Photography and Video. As of right now, I am torn between two potential photogs/videographers:
#1: Imagine. Photography was GORGEOUS. VERY impressed. Video not as nice as DUET's and total package more expensive (photo AND video)
#2: DUET: Beautiful photography, gorgeous video, great prices...however, FI and I prefer a more b&w look and more photojournalistic style. For that, we prefer Imagine's style of photog.
What would YOU do? save money or splurge and go over budget?

I am pretty sure that if you want to use Imagine you have to use them for BOTH photo and video. They told us that upfront.

I LOVED Lias work. Shes truly amazing. You are going to be looking at the pictures from your wedding daily if you hang them on your wall. You will maybe watch your video 2x a year. I say go with Imagine

If both had the same price who would you go with?
What were the major differences that of the options?

If you don't mind my asking, what's the difference in cost? If it's a significant amount, you may be best off going with Duet. If you are worried that you may be 'missing' something with Duet, than you should go with Imagine. Another thing to take into consideration is the chemistry you have with the photog/videog. They're going to be with you all day, so you should see who you are most comfortable with. Also, do you think either place can give you what you want if you just ask? ie: If you want certain types of photojournalist shots you can put them on your 'must have' list of photos. If you don't like the video maybe you can work closely with whoever does the editing so you can get more of what you want.

Another thing I forgot Duet gave us a list of 4 people who have used them in the past and it was fine to contact them. Did Imagine do the same if you ask or did they just give it to you?

My only suggestion before you would book either, make sure you do your research, there are a LOT of fantastic photographers and videographers out there, some you may not here about on this board. You have time (although I know they book up fast) but check out some others as well, I'm sure it will help you make a decision in the long run. I visited one and spoke to another that you mention. Imagine was beautiful. I personally found someone else for both photo and video but from what I have seen you cannot go wrong with Imagine's photography. Best of luck in your decision!!

maybe you can check out more photographers?...most photographers dont require you to book both with them.... then you can have duet for video, and have photo that you like too

After voting, I realized something:
The biggest regret anyone in my family has from my Bat Mitzvah was not having a Prof. Photographer and a videographer instead. Yeah, my mom watched the video a lot, but that's because she's my mom and she's like that. Most people don't really watch their videos. As long as the video is a good quality, you'll be happy with it. From the tone of your posts, I'd say go with Imagine. I think you'll be happier with their photos, and THOSE are the things that get pulled out for grandkids, you know?
As for the use Imagine or not debate, I read somewhere that's a good idea to use the same company for both, so that the people know each other and are familiar with each other's style, and what not.

I pretty much agree with PrincessRose.
You do not want to regret the photographer chose - these will be your memories 10 years down the line.
I just want to add that the photos & video do not need to be from the same company. These vendors are professional and are able to coordinate working together. And often times, they have worked together in the past.

Well, how much over budget would you be? A couple hundred wouldn't be too bad. But, it we're talking THOUSANDS, than that's an issue.
what I did was book for proofs and negatives only. In the interim, by photographer is throwing in a couple extra prints (cause he likes me )
I plan on doing an album in a couple years, after the expenses have calmed down. Is that an option?
