Re:Reception/Catering Hall

I am a former Long Islander who currently lives out of state, but will be getting married on LI. When I come into town, I will only have enough time to look at three or four catering/reception halls. Problem is, I don't know where to start. Any suggestions on where to look and where to avoid would be greatly appreciated!!!

Try the Bellport Country Club in Bellport- they are catered and owned by the same people from the Irish Coffee Pub. Great staff - ask for Niall (nile) They are very helpful and flexible with price if you are flexible with the date. They also do a great job at the Coffee Pub itself! Another option -Port Jeff country club - March is only 59$ per head.

I got this formula from USABride.com. They have a tip of the day that you can have sent to your e-mail if you want. If not you can just get on their site and look at the tips. Some of their ideas are pretty good.

Gina, We're looking for an atmosphere that is contemporary but not gaudy for an evening reception; Either Nassau or Suffolk. Prices under $ 90.00 pp, and great food and service. Any specific rooms you could recommend for approx. 150 people would be great also. Thanks so much!

Good luck, Mark

Re:Reception/Catering Hall

Thanks for the info ladies. I never even considered the Metropolitan. I have heard that Chateau Briand has the same decor, as well as Jericho Terrace. But I haven't heard about the food or service. Any opinions?

Hi, Valerie!

I checked out Chateau Briand, and although the place was ABSOLUTELY gorgeous, it was $110 pp.

We checked out a dozen other places, and fell in love with JOHN ANTHONY'S ON THE WATER located in the Incorporated Village of Babylon...south shore of Suffolk...not too far from Nassau. It has two banquet halls that are completely seperate and would accommodate 150 (that was the minimum we had to guarentee) both looking over the water (great patio for pictures). It has a fabulous package that includes the cocktail hour, bridal suite, valet parking, dinner, top shelf open bar, wedding cake, etc. It was perfect for us!

Valerie, You might want to try Woodbury Country Club. I am having my wedding there in May They gave me a price of 95pp on a Sat night. They just remodeled the entire place and its not gaudy. They have only 2 weddings at a time which are totally separate. We tried the food also and it seemed good. I have only heard good things about the place from people.

I have recently heard a few negative comments about Chateau Briand (their food is not as good as it has been in the past).

As for the Jericho Terrace, I have heard nothing but good things. It is supposed to be beautiful.

Lorraine, What type of prices am I looking at for an evening reception at Jericho Terrace? Can you recommend a particular room? Who should I talk to? Do they recommend other vendors? I have heard nothing but good things about them as well. Let me Know, thanks!

They were one of the most reasonable companies we saw.

I am also getting married at the Metropolitan in Nov. 2000. Michael booked our reception and we found the place to be classy and elegant. It is definitely unique with a personal touch

I was disgusted by a meeting with one DJ who mentioned a tip, two minutes into our conversation. Needless to say, I knew two minutes into the conversation that he was not the one for me. And reading Rob of "Starlight Productions" post, I am glad that HE is not the one either.

For the record, I fully intend on tipping AND feeding my DJ (because he had the class to NOT mention either)

Re:Reception/Catering Hall

We all get this stuff from personal experience. Personally, I have attended several functions at both halls and found Chateau Briand's food quite unsatisfactory, although I have to say I was never there five years ago. As far as a wedding factory, there are at least 3 weddings going on at once on a Saturday. At least that's what I've seen when I've been there. I love the decor, but wasn't impressed with the food to pay $100 plus a plate.

Everyone has their own vision of what their wedding reception will be. That why each hall has their own decor. Milleridge is very warm and romantic, Chateau Briand and the Metropolitan very contemporary, The Sandcastle very mid-evil and The Carltun very formal. To say that some of us have never had first hand familarity with these places seems a bit prejudice, don't you think?

Re:Lorraine, Me Too!

Lorraine, I also booked the Jericho Terrace, even though we hadn't considered it until we actually went to go see it. We couldn't be more pleased. Keep in touch I'd love to hear how everything turns out. Best Wishes!

Yes, they have paper selections out so that you can view and feel the sheet. You can buy by the sheet or by the reem (or case). In fact, they had four different weights of vellum...wouldn't be able to tell the difference without holding up a single sheet to the light :-)

Actually Rachel, I just posted to Lorraine that we decided on the Jericho Terrace. I have heard the mixed reviews on this board, but my fiancee and I are happy and that's all that counts! :)

PS:Yours is at the Metropolitan right? Ohhh, I love that place...great ambiance. Good Luck.

Re:Reception/Catering Hall

I couldn't have said it better! No matter where you go there will always be something..about some place. All I know is that a HUGE portion of a wedding budget goes into the reception hall, and we checked out all of them. But when we stepped into the place, I just knew it. Sometimes you gotta go with your gut. True it's not for everyone, but we couldn't be more pleased. Our first choice was at Russo's on the Bay, but they were booked for our date. Keep in touch, Valerie.

The Miller Place Inn is very nice. Their web site is www.millerplaceinn.com Good luck!

What are you talking about? There is no contradiction w/Martha Stewart's advice + mine. Please read my postings if you want clarification.

The hostility is not on my part. I simply need to defend myself against all these attacks.

Hi and welcome!!!
You can definitely get some great answers here and using the search function is a great way to get started. This thread that you responded to is 13 years old, so the information is probably not very current. Not meant as a criticism at all, we were all new once!
You might want to search for newer threads or start a new topic. Your timeframe and budget is going to be tough, so definitely jump right in!
Hope that helps!
