Readers for Ceremony

We're having an interfaith ceremony and I wanted to do a reading outside of the 'together for life' book and my church just told me no it has to be from that book. Has anyone ever heard of that? Cause it was the office staff that told me that NOT the priest...

2nd question, do we invite the 'readers' to the rehearsal dinner AND get them a present if they arent already a part of our wedding party?

Call and ask to speak to the priest, or bring it up the next time you see him.

and yes and yes, gifts for ther readers- nothing crazy- like amybe a bottle of wine and a nice thank you card, or whatever you see fit. and yes invite to the rehearsal and dinner, they will call the readers up to practice, and advise them when they have to go up.

I know in catholic churches the readings have to be from the book. But maybe they will allow a change for an interfaith ceremony.

I will be inviting readers to the rehearsal and dinner, and getting them small tokens of thank you (not sure though what). We'll also probably give them corsages.
