Readers for roman catholic church

Does anyone know if the 2 readers you choose for a roman catholic ceremony have to be roman catholic?

Good question. My cousin got married recently, in Denver (Catholic church), and my other cousin did a reading (she's Jewish). I would ask the church...

I was told yes by one priest and no by another. You should ask the priest you is marrying you and see what he says.

It really depends on the priest and the church. At my friend's wedding there was a Catholic reader, a Mormon reader, and a Christian reader.

I haven't asked yet, but I need to because we aren't planning on all Catholic readers.

Hi I just recently did a reading for my brothers wedding at Mary Gate of Heaven in Ozone Park and so did my sister and neither of us were baptised catholic.

They do not have to be roman catholic. We are having just the ceremony at church (not a full mass) and we needed an old testament reading, a new testament reading and someone to read the prayer of the faithful.

We had a full mass and yes they asked if the readers were catholic- they are, but honestly if they werent how would they know?

I don't think so.
If that person takes communion then they should be catholic.

I say, if the priest doesn't ask, don't tell.
