I had picked 3 'non-religious' readings that we both really loved and when I was reading them to my FFIL he noted that none of them were from the Bible. What readings are you guys using? I don't want to use the ones that are always used. I started to look online to see if I could find any that were appropriate but haven't had much luck. THanks!

Re: Readings?
We didn't have much choice - we were giving a packet with 4 choices for each reading - and were told we had to pick one from each group. My church is rather strict with rules though but if you are getting married in a church I think the reading will have to be from the bible if you are getting married at the reception hall I would talk with the priest I think you might have some room to pick more of what you want

Re: Readings?
Are you getting married in a church? If so, then at pre-cana or a meeting with your priest you will be given a book that has the approved readings. It's usually one from the OT and 2 from the NT. This book also gives you the whole run-down of the church ceremony.

Re: Readings?
we have to pick one old test. one new test. we can pick a poem or something to be read, but it has to be approved by the deacon. i don't mind though, its not like i would pick somthing sleezy to be read on our wedding day!

Re: Readings?
Sorry, I have no suggestions, but I'm also looking for readings...preferably non-religious... and unique!

Re: Readings?
We have three readings - 1 old testament, 1 new and the prayer of the faithful. This is one:
I Corinthians 13 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away my body to be burned, but have not love, I again nothing. Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends; as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect; but when the perfect comes the imperfect will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
It's a pretty common reading, but this version is a little bit different. I thinkit's so appropriate.
Good luck.
