Re: Readings
I can give you one of each
Old Testamanet
A Reading from the Book of Ruth 1:16-17
But Ruth said, 'Do not press me to leave you or to turn back from following you! Where you go, I will go; where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die –there will I be buried. May the Lord do thus and so to me, and more as well, if even death parts me from you!'
We were going to use the above, but changed to a different one, whoich right now I can't find. I will post it tonight.
Here's the New Testament
A reading from the book of Corinthians 12:31-13:8
Be ambitious for the higher gifts. And I am going to show you a way that is better than any of them. If I have all the eloquence of men or of angels, but speak without love, I am simply a gong booming or a cymbal clashing. If I have the gift of prophecy, understanding all the mysteries there are, and knowing everything, and if I have faith in all its fullness, to move mountains, but without love, then I am nothing at all. If I give away all that I possess, piece by piece and if I even let them take my body to burn it, but am without love, it will do me no good whatever. Love is always patient and kind; it is never boastful or conceited; it is never rude or selfish; it does not take offence, and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people’s sins but delights in the truth; it is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes. Love does not come to an end.

Re: Readings
Here's our old testament one
A reading from the Song of Songs 8: 6-7
Set me like a cylinder-seal upon your heart, like a signet on your arm. For love is strong as death, Passion is unrelenting as Sheol. Its flames are ferocious, It is a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; Floodwaters cannot overflow it. If someone were to offer all his possessions to buy love, They would be utterly despised

Re: Readings
Hi,
I am using the readings from the Together of Life.
Old Testament: The Creation of Woman...like the way man and woman are 'one'
New Testament: The Greatest of These is Love...like that it is not too religious and denotes what love brings to a marriage.
Hope this helps...anything else, just ask!

Re: Readings
Dubliner, we are using the same exact readings. My rabbi suggested both Ruth and Song of Songs for our interfaith ceremony.

Old Testament for Me:
Song of Solomon 2 vs. 10-13
'My lover spoke and said to me, Arise, my darling my beautiful one, and come with me. See, the winter is past; the rains are over and gone Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come my darling; my beautiful one, come with me'

Re: Readings
Ok why is the song of solomon different in my together for life book?
Also is it ok to use just a verse not the whole thing?

Re: Readings
This is so weird. I have my grandmother's 80 year old bible that she carried on her wedding day....and Song of Songs, that same section...goes like this:
Set me as a seal upon thy heart, as a seal upon thy arm; For strong as death is love; violent like the nether world is jealousy; It’s heat is the heat of fire, a flame of God Many waters are not able to quench love, nor can the rivers flood it away; If a man were to give all the wealth of his house for love, men would utterly despise him.
I don't get how the Together For Life book works...are they intentionally changing it? To make it more appropriate or something? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having readings?

Liz where did you get that from? I like it better than the together for life version.

Re: Readings
Well, I got my version from a Bible that uses the New International Version or something like that. WHen I get home, I will look. My Pastor had the King James Version, which sounds a little harsher too, and not as romantic. I asked him what the difference was, he said the original KJ Version will always sound more technical, b/c that's how they spoke back in those days, but with the new Bibles, they make different versions for easier reading. Basically says the same thing, but in a way that is more easily understood, and easily read. He said it's fine to use any version. I like this one that I found in my BIble.
WHen I get home, I'll look at it and see exactly what version it is.

Re: Readings
Our priest is letting us use 2 readings from the new testament and none from the old testament. We really didn't care for the old testament readings.
