I posted this question once a while ago and no one responded but I thought I'd try again, haha. I am curious about what kind of readings others are having at their ceremonies. I am having a non-religious ceremony and my officiant can do a reading. There is a poem I like but I am wondering what others are doing. Any ideas, ladies? TIA!

I am having a non-religious ceremony and would like to have a reading or two. I just haven't figured out what to have yet. You should use the poem you like

I dont have any idea!! I am not having anyone on the family do a reading or anything like that. When I finally meet with an officiant I think I will ask for suggestions.
If you have a reading you would like to have read I would do it!

Re: Readings at your Ceremony?
We're having a ceremony at a church. but I really want to have an excerpt from John Donne's 'A Valediction Forbidding Mourning' read. It uses the metaphor of a compass to describe two lovers that are separated... it reminds me so much of FH and my long distance relationship.
But we by a love so much refined, That ourselves know not what it is, Inter-assurèd of the mind, Care less, eyes, lips and hands to miss.
Our two souls therefore, which are one, Though I must go, endure not yet A breach, but an expansion, Like gold to aery thinness beat.
If they be two, they are two so As stiff twin compasses are two ; Thy soul, the fix'd foot, makes no show To move, but doth, if th' other do.
And though it in the centre sit, Yet, when the other far doth roam, It leans, and hearkens after it, And grows erect, as that comes home.
Such wilt thou be to me, who must, Like th' other foot, obliquely run ; Thy firmness makes my circle just, And makes me end where I begun.

Re: Readings at your Ceremony?
I like that poem! I remember studying it in college. I am an English teacher and a hopeless romantic so poetry is my great love besides FH, haha. This is the one I like...
Sudden Light
I have been here before, But when or how I cannot tell: I know the grass beyond the door, The sweet keen smell, The sighing sound, the lights around the shore.
You have been mine before,-- How long ago I may not know: But just when at that swallow's soar Your neck turn'd so, Some veil did fall,--I knew it all of yore.
Has this been thus before? And shall not thus time's eddying flight Still with our lives our love restore In death's despite, And day and night yield one delight once more?

I'm also having a non religious ceremony that is being performed by Pastor April. If you go on her website she has a bunch of different readings you can check out.
