My friend told me to give an earlier date than my real wedding date when buying a dress. Did you all do that? If so, how much in advance did you make the date?

Re: Real date when buying a dress?
I didn't need to do it when I ordered my dress, because it was being ordered as a sample from the dress shop. However, when I ordered my BM dresses, I told them a month before the actual date, and the consultant also put a month before the made up date that I told her was my wedding date, so in essence, I put 2 months before (so May for a July wedding). I would def. put an earlier date, just for peace of mind that your dresses will be in before your wedding, and no one has to go for last minute rush fittings the week of the wedding.

Definitely put an earlier date. Mine is May 31, but I put May 3rd. You can never be too cautious...........

Re: Real date when buying a dress?
People had told me that, but I didn't want to lie, especially since my wedding was in early Fall and I wanted to buy a dress that would be appropriate. Plus, I was losing a lot of weight and wanted to be sure the dress fit perfectly.
Turns out, my gown was only ready the day before my wedding, which left me with some unnecessary stress right before You're better off to push the date up at least a week I'd say!

I didn't lie about the wedding date, but I am thinking now that maybe I should have.

Re: Real date when buying a dress?
I ordered my dress a year before my wedding, so I was honest about the date

Re: Real date when buying a dress?
I gave the real date - but I ordered my dress a full 10 months before the wedding, so I'm not worried!

Re: Real date when buying a dress?
I ordered my dress almost one year exactly to the day I was getting married. Even so I still said my wedding was 1 month earlier. It was just to make me feel better.

I told them my real date but, now I am second guessing myself and wish I had said an earlier date

Re: Real date when buying a dress?
I put 2 weeks before my wedding just in case (even though I ordered it early and it came in early - I just wanted to play it safe). It did cause a couple problems when it came time to fittings because they were rushing to get it done in time and I kept stalling them. I finally told the truth at the final fitting.

Re: Real date when buying a dress?
I didn't need to - I ordered the store model, but we gave th ereal date for the BM dresses, and the girls are a little concerned that the dresses are not in yet, but I think they have plenty of time.
If you use a reputaable store I don't think you need to worry. I also don't think ther eis any harm is giving them an earlier date - but where do you store the dress when you get it early?
