DH and I started looking at homes....in NJ. I just got off the phone with our Agent and she more or less told me that at $425K we are being UNREALISTIC.....425 is a stretch for us....I don't think this area is THAT great.....the nearest beach is an hour away (i miss LI!!!)
Please do not respond to this by commenting if you are uncomfortable, I just want an idea of where other NW's are (and almost NW's!!)
I seriously almost fell off the chair......and now my stomach hurts

At first we are going to probably buy a condo. We're look to spend around 250K. Eventually we plan to move upstate to Orange County. I look all the time and there are really GORGEOUS houses for 350K.

Won't be a NW for 10 more months, but our range is 600+. I live in Forest Hills in Queens and the houses there are pretty expensive. FH and I decided to stay in our nice rental for at least 2-3 more years until we save up enough money.

I think that is a very realistic budget. We got our house for 425k as well. On long island, i am not sure of the area in NJ, but i watch a ton of shows on HGTV and you should defin be able to find a house for that price!
Get a new realtor maybe!

we are in the process now and will close pretty soon... we got it at first phase construction rates so 405 but they are going for 440 now

we wanted to stay between 350-400K...We knew this way we could easily be able to pay the mortgage every month and have alittle extra! Luckily we found a house in that range!

i second that... we are also on LI but we are taking over FH's home.... but its in that price range if they sold it... and its a 2 family home.
you are def in the RIGHT $$ and u should find something.

i think its realistic but for LI not sure about NJ. you can get something in that range, though it will most likely need work. we are in the process of looking and most in that range dont have much updates done to them

Just got pre-approved last week. Broker said for a $350 thousand home....with 97.5% FHA financing and PMI...our monthly payments would be approximately $2900. That is high considering I'd like to be able to live off of one income every now and again. But it's doable. I just wish we had more of a down payment. What monthly payment are you guys getting?
I bought a house on my own almost 2 years ago and the house is now about 40,000 less than what I paid for it.....Now is the time to buy!!!!!
