Really Confused About Flowers!!

I feel like i'm being so obnoxious for obsessing about it, FH is saying it's done and over with so I should stop thinking about it but ............ I can't. Everyone was pressuring me about not getting things done on time and I was unsure about what to do with flowers so I made an appt. with Pedestals last week. I went in with FH and mom ((big mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)) and they talked me into bok's, bout's, Centerpieces, etc. Don't get me wrong, it's very beautiful but it's all coming to just over $3,000! I'm really upset about this, more than i'm letting FH know.

I was hoping to keep the costs down with this since we're starting to go so over our budget it's ridiculous! Our RH is on the water and I was hoping to be creative and make really nice centerpieces out of candles and shells.....something beachy. Now I will have 20 tables full of 2 dozen roses in bowls with scattered petals and tea lights. Yea it's so pretty but definitely not the 'beachy' look I was going for. I feel ridiculous for being so sad and FH says i'm being a spoiled brat b/c i'm going to have such nice CP's and don't have to go thru the trouble anymore just to 'forget about it'.

ahh no you arent being crazy it sounds like you went with the other flower options becuase fh & mom liked them - why dont you seriously speak with your fh and tell him you would rather go for a more beachy look i am sure you can contact the florists and they can work with you - I know the look you are going for and it sounds sooo nice especially at our RH

Yes I did sign the contract and left a $300 deposit. My hall twin knows what I mean, the place has alot of windows and would look great with simpler CP's with lots of candles, right?? I was trying to give the girl at Pedestals my ideas but she started blowing me off saying how I was trying to keep costs down and if she did a bowl with sea glass and flowers it would be so beautiful and I was like WHOA wait a minute when she said like $5,000 for something like that. So then she was like well that's why we're going with simple roses and kind of guilted me into it. I can't explain what happened, I really don't know why I just went along with it.


I want to jump up and down and cry like a child. lol.

Seriously...you should not be locked into those flowers if you dont want them. I contracted for centerpieces, then did some more research and decided that I wanted something totally different. My florist changed it for me without a problem. Maybe you could change the color of the roses to something a little more 'beachy', like white or cream or yellow. You can sprinkle seashells on the tables, have beach-themed placecards...theres lots you can do.

well that's what I tried to tell her, can we add some shells or starfish around or maybe some pieces of coral in the flowers? it's all blush and white roses, I mean cmon, we're talking about $3,000 here!!!!!!!!!!!!! So she goes, well yea if you'd like to buy them we can do that.

I just feel like a jerk. I felt like if we would have walked out of there w/out a contract then FH and mom would have both been berating me the whole ride home about how I slack off and need to get this done now! I swear, if one more person tells me I 'HAVE' to do something i'm going to take a running start and knock them over!

can't you purchase some shells and startfish in a craft store and have them incorporated somehow? this stinks!

Its funny that you family is saying you are slacking by doing things in this time frame. FH and his family keep telling me 'you have time' which drives me nuts!
I say, sit back and think about it. What do YOU want. if it's the beach theme then sit down and talk to FH cause you are obviously upset. Then decide together how to handle it and go into the florist and tell her you want to go with your original idea. Don't let others sway you especially on something like flowers.

They make me feel like I should just rush through this and as long as I get it done, then it's ok. I don't want to rush through it, i want to enjoy it and make it great. I'm just frustrated. I don't mind getting little starfish and crystals but I feel like for $3,000 I shouldn't have to do that. I don't know, maybe that's just not as much money as I think it is but I work hard for my money. It's not like it's going to make me broke but ..... it's just alot of money to me. I am being repetative LOL. sorry!

Are they high centerpieces or low? To me, $3000 for 20 high centerpieces doesnt sound too crazy.

you can probably do it yourself for less money and i am almost positive another florist may be able to do it within your budget - you have to shop around or see if you can meet with pedestals again (maybe a different person) and go over your ideas and how you can incorporate what you like and keep within the budget....

i dont think you are being a brat or spoiled at all - sometimes its easy to get caught up in it all...if its something that is going to bother you see if you can fix it - its not a big deal - its something you can talk to pedestals about....

no it is better to get it out you shouldnt really settle especially with the price you are paying i completely understand you not wanting to purchase the starfish etc. it is more principal than anything- your florists really should work with you though especially since you have this vision of how you want the room to look

yes they're low centerpieces, a round bowl with a couple dozen roses and scattered petals around. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful but so typical. Something like this but all blush/white roses:
