Me and FH are finalizing seating chart. Is is traditional for the groom's family to sit on the right or left when you walk into the reception. We think most weddings the groom is to the right??

Re: Really dumb question
I was told at our reception bride and her family on the right, because from now on, the woman is always right! I thought that was cute. I don't htink it really matters, though.

Re: Really dumb question
typically the groom is on the left...but it also depends on the type of room and size of guests. my side of the family was 3x the size of DH's so to make the room work for us we put his side on the right.

I always thought separating the two families was silly. After all, it's a wedding - the joining of two families, so why an hour (or so) after the ceremony are they being split up???

Re: Really dumb question
I didn't even know that there was a protocol for seating family. I was just going to sit them with out any consideration to the side. Thanks, I've learned something new today

I totally agree. IMO, the wedding should be about the joining of families so why separate them at the reception?
