FH is one of 5 siblings. Tragically and without warning, one of his brothers passed away last year who was young, leaving a wife and three young children. He would have been FH's best man.
It was really important that his side of the bridal party just be family -- his sister is his Best Woman, his other 2 brothers and my brother as his groomsmen. Well, we just found out that another one of his other brothers, who is a Chief Engineer / merchant marine, will be away on a ship for the wedding. I'm so sad and disappointed. I don't want to make FH more upset, but I just feel like the wedding will be even more incomplete than I could imagine.
I am trying to not dwell on this because I'm sure FH and his family are more disappointed than I could ever be. It's just a major bummer.

Aw, I am sorry. All the planning really seems futile if you dont have your loved ones with you on your big day. Since he cannot be there, maybe you can be sure to send him a special message via your wedding video/ have a toast in his honor or just something to let him know that he was missed.
sorry

I really like your idea about a video message to him.... I'm sure he is equally upset about not being there.
Thank you

Re: really sad news.
I saw pictures of a wedding once where a person who was in BP could not attend and they had a life size cutout of the person in color and everything (in a suit) and put it up with the bridal party for the ceremony. A little uncoventional, but I thought it was a great idea to remind everyone of the person who couldn't be there to stand up there with them for the day. (it actually looked really realistic!) Anyways, just thought I would share that with you...I hope everything works out for you!

That is such a sweet idea.
I'm so sorry about your loss and his loss. It sounds like you have a really lovely and close-knit family and a lot of support and love. I know you will have a wonderful and happy wedding because of that, and wish you all the best.
