Really Stupid Question re: Fittings

Really Stupid Question re: Fittings

I am planning my wedding from out of state and bought my dress from Netbride. None of my BMs live particularly close to me. I want my sis/BM at my fittings so that she knows how to do the bustle but I don't think I need to inconvenience her to come to all of them. (She's about an hour away.)

When does or did your seamstress show you how to do the bustle? Is it the first fitting or one of the later ones?

Thanks!

I was told at the last fitting! But I am not too sure because I haven't started the fittings yet!

Mine was shown at the last one, but I am sure if she can attend any one of your fittings the seamstress will be able to show her how it will go.

Re: Really Stupid Question re: Fittings

It is usually the second to the last. Most fittings avarage three fittings. If everything goes well on the first and second, they will do the bustle and then at the last fitting, they will show you how to pin it up. But, most of the hall have someone who knows how to pin them. But, since there are different types of bustles it would be a good idea to have her there or one of your brides maids. I had my mom do it. I knew I could count on her.

Re: Really Stupid Question re: Fittings

I am glad you asked that question,I would like to ask another, if you don't mind. When does the seamstress actually do the cutting? I did my first fitting and she pinned the hem but now I want a bigger crenolin and I know that it would affect the length of the skirt.

Re: Really Stupid Question re: Fittings

Once the top, and waist area are done, then they move to the hem and bustle. But, I would strongly recommend you have the shoes you will be wearing before she starts cutting. And yes, the crenolin will probably be cut about 1/2 an inch shorter then the hem. Also you want to have the shoes so you know if they are going to get tangled with the crenolin, (buckels, buttons etc.) Hope this helps.

Re: Really Stupid Question re: Fittings

i don't mean to take over the post, but I did have my shoes on that day. I called and told the owner to please let the seamstress know that she can do everything else just not the hem because of my change of heart with the crenolin. I am only going to have 2 fittings. So when is the hem generally done after the first or final fitting.

Then she will probably measure the crenonlin and re-pin the hem and then cut and sew, on your final fitting. If by chance, there is a problem with either length, then they would have to re-adust it. Another tip, make sure you walk around with both the crenoline and hem pinned. You want to make sure your shoes do not get tangled. Also make sure you sit down with the crenolin and dress. You may find it a little uncomfortable to sit if the crenonlin is too full. Also, it may make it a little uncomfortable when dancing and walking aroung the tables to greet your guests. You don't want to have to squeeze in between the tables.

Re: Really Stupid Question re: Fittings

Thanks alot 2untamed I was worried that I would come and the skirt was too short. At the time I had not chosen the crenlin yet,So I would guess that she wouldn't be able to do the hem yet.

You're welcome. But, it wouldn't hurt to place another call and make sure they make a note, not to cut the hem yet untill you go back to the store.

I just looked at your wedding dress pictures and love your dress. I would definalty go with a litte bigger crenolin to show off all the beading on your skirt. But, don't let them talk you into a Hoop skirt! They are very uncomfortable and when you sit, the dress flares out like half a moon.
