Is Kew Gardens part of Jamaica? I'm trying to Mapquest directions from my parents' house in Bayside to the Queens office of the City Clerk, and it keeps giving me Jamaica instead of Kew Gardens...
I realize that this is the dumbest question a person who grew up in Queens could possibly ask, but I haven't lived in NY since I graduated from HS and I am totally clueless about anything outside Bayside, Little Neck or Douglaston...

Re: REALLY stupid question RE: Queens
I could be totally wrong about this but I thought Queens was divided into a few major towns like Flushing and Jamaica...not exactly sure what the other one might be...I remember places like Bayside would also come up as Flushing...I guess although people living in Queens divide it into all these different towns like Middle Village or Bayside or Whitestone they are fall into larger 'towns' . That was always my thoughts but I could be wrong.

Kew Gardens and Jamaica are two different towns. And we don't divide the places - they are each there own 'town' that happen to be in the county of Queens, which hasmany towns such as middle village, Ozone Park, Jamaica, Hollis, fushing, Whitestone, Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck, College Point.....Just to name a few.

Re: REALLY stupid question RE: Queens
Old tradition had Queens divided into Jamaica, Flushing, LI City and Far Rockaway by zip codes:
111 prefixes for Long Island City, 113 prefixes for Flushing, 114 prefixes for Jamaica, and 116 prefixes for Far Rockaway
Kew Gardens is part of Flushing. I used to live there and I could use Flushing or Kew Gardens interchangibly with the exact same zip code. I also lived in Bellerose (Queens side) and it fell within Jamaica. There are simply many neighborhoods within the major areas.

Kew Garden borders with Jamaica maybe thats why Mapquest comes up with Jamaica...

I live in Kew Gardens. It is not part of Jamaica. Maybe you are putting in the wrong zip code. Kew Gardens is 11415.
BTW from Bayside take the Clearview Expressway South to the LIE West, to the Grand Central Parkway East. Get off at the Queens Boulevard Exit. stay on the service road until you get to the 'do not enter' sign at the end. Turn Right. The next corner is Queens Boulevard - turn left and go into the Main Road in the middle. The Queens Clerk's office will be about 2-3 blocks down on the left hand side. You'll see the Court house buildings.

Re: REALLY stupid question RE: Queens
Thanks, girls!
It turns out the zip code for the clerk's office I had was wrong...
I know zip codes are sometimes freaky in Queens (my parents live in Bayside, but their zip always triggers 'Oakland Gardens' which is close to where they live, but definitely not in Oakland Gardens), but thought that was a little insane...
Thanks to BRod-Cheng for the right directions...
I was WAAAAAY off and never would've gotten my marriage license!

I am reposting this. If the first three digits of your zip code matches any of the above, then that is the part of Queens you live in. The 'neighborhoods' were given other names to possibly make a place sound more appealing or to make an area smaller.
I lived in Kew Gardens Hills - 11367 which is also FLUSHING. Just as Bellerose comes up as Jamaica.

I know. I gew up there. For some reason the post office keeps re-zoning to make their life easier and the real estate agents do the same thing in order to make neighborhoods more appealing.
My parent's home has been in Richmond Hill for 30 years. All of the sudden it's called South Richmond Hill. The same thing happened to Ozone Park and Jamaica. They just insist on confusing everyone
