Really upset (long)

Really upset (long)

I don't really know if you girls will totally understand or just think I am crazy but I needed to try something!!!

A little background info - for some reason, I tend to get very cranky & snippy when my MOH (aka my BFF) is around my family - and I don't mean just when she's like at my house, I mean more like if she's at a family function, such as a holiday or big event. I truly don't know the reason for this... This has been going on for years. My MOH is very aware and does everything she can to accomodate me, which I know she doesn't have to do, but I do appreciate it. We know each other inside and out. She has her own insecurities, as do I, of course. Her main insecurity is a fear of abandonment b/c every friend and important person in her life has left her for some reason or another. Obviously I know this about her and tell her all the time I am not going anywhere, etc. She also has not much family, so her friends (esp me) ARE her family. There is no line of distinction for her in her life, as most people tend to have.

Okay - now, that all being said - last night my mom and grandmother had their fittings at David's Bridal. I (stupidly) invited my MOH to join us, not even remembering that I get pissy in those types of situations. Well, sure enough, that happened and I ended up coming off like this major Bridezilla to the staff there - one woman even commented (which did NOT help the situation let me tell you!). Anyway, so after the fittings and all, I went back to my MOH's apt w/ her and we talked everything out.

Her feeling is that I don't really want her to be included in my family's things and that's why I always get cranky. My family life is not the same as hers. I SAY that she's like a sister to me, but then I go and act witchy when she's with my family, so maybe what she's saying could be true, I don't really know... but what I DO know is that I am scared to death that on my wedding day I am just going to be this horrible Bridezilla simply b/c of all this!!! I need to talk to my therapist about all this, but I am not seeing her until mid-July so I am venting to you girls, instead!

The other thing that came up is that I had told her the other day that FSIL/BM and I had a bonding moment. She is petrified that I am going to 'replace' her with my FSIL (which will never, EVER happen - I don't even adore my FSIL all that much!) She cant stand my FSIL though, and in the course of her being upset and worried last night, she bluntly told me that she hates her and that my FSIL 'put her thru hell' during the planning of my shower. So now, I feel sick to my stomach about my shower AGAIN (I had these feelings a few months back but somehow I talked myself out of them and started getting excited about my shower instead - which is how it should be) and I think my shower could be this Sunday. I have to somehow talk myself out of these feelings again b/c I just am so upset...

If you're still reading this - God bless you LOL! I know you all probably think I am nuts, but I had to let it out. I just want everything to be over and I want to be on my HM already!!!

Well I think it is great that you took the time to talk things out with her. She is also afraid of losing you to the FSIL. Especially if FSIL was a biotch during the shower planning.
You are going to be fine, you were level headed enough to realize what you are doing is wrong.

Thanks, Kim!

The worst thing is that I really can't even vent to FH b/c FSIL has been feeding him info about my MOH during the shower planning - most of which has prob been exaggerated or made up - but now he is somewhat annoyed w/ my MOH due to what his sis told him. UCK!

lol...that sure was long...
but if you know you get antsy around your family when shes there then don't invite her to small wedding functions. If she complains just say its nothing important, no need for you to come. You don't always have to explain yourself to her. Just hang in there

I think that personally, sometimes I need friend time and sometimes I need family time. If there really isn't that boundary with your MOH, then maybe its beginning to frustrate you.

I think you'll be FINE on your wedding day. . so many people will be there, you won't be concerned about it, I'm sure.

Maybe you just need to draw that line with her, and when something is a family function - make it just that - family. Even if she is 'just like a sister', at the end of the day she isn't really one. She can still be your best friend and not invited to family functions, but that is JMO.

Good luck

Thank you! I really think you're right. I guess there is a part of me that WANTS me to feel so happy to have her there with my family, etc., just the way she feels that way! I guess it's just not gonna happen though, and I have to learn to be okay with that!

AWh, I'm so sorry you are getting so upset.
AS far as your MOH, I agree with everyone and I think it might be good to separate your time with her and with your family. I'm sure she'll understand as long as you still stay close, she shouldn't feel you abandoning her. It's good that you talked with your MOH, and she seems to want to work with you to make things more comfortable, so I'm sure everything will be fine.

As far as the shower and wedding, I'm sure since there will be a lot of people around not just MOH and family, but your other friends and extended family, so I don't really think you'll get those feelings, especially since you'll be on such a high. Don't let this ruin your happy feelings, everything will be fine, don't you worry, you should be on cloud nine.

I had a friend like this and she was horrible to every other friend I had because I was 'hers'. It's good you sat down and talked to her maybe just try and reassure her you are not going anywhere and sometimes you need to just do what you have to do with family. Let her know you do consider her to be like a sister but, even though you appreciate her wanted to be a part of many aspects of your life there are somethings you need to take care of on your own. I would make sure that this is clear to her before the wedding because that the is last thing you are going to want to worry about. Besides you want her to enjoy herself as well!

Thats really good that you were able to talk about things. I had the same situation a few years ago. I didnt end well tho. I had a best friend with the same family life. She attached to my family, she was at my house when I wasnt, went every where with them, did everything with them. She was like a missing addition. For some reason after years it started to drive my crazyyyy. Every time I walked through my own door there she was. I couldnt take it. Eventually she was mad when I hung out with other friends and our friendship was lost.

I know how it is. I dont know why I was like that it just used to drive me mad. I wasnt jealous I think I was just smotherd if that makes any sense?

Yeah I totally hear you. Thank GOD she doesn't do that! She knows I'd flip if like I came home from work and she was in my house! She is super understanding about my 'issues,' as I am with hers. Everyone always tells us that we have such an amazing and unique relationship, and that everyone who has a best friend should be like us LOL! We take it as a compliment
