Can you offer them compensation? Since I have no idea about any of this - if the tree is cut down, and im assuming the fence isnt going right in its place - can u maybe put like a pretty tree in there, like a baby weeping cherry? those are so pretty

If I was your neighbor I would totally let you do it!! A nice white PVC fence in place of that fence & those trees!! I wouldnt worry i'm sure they will say YES!!

Is it technically on your property? I don't see why they wouldn't want to get rid of it considering it' right on the fence line.
Just seems ridiculous to me.

honestly, I get upset when trees are chopped down. They serve a purpose and they are usually beautiful. But it sounds like this one has to go. Go over today and discuss it again.

I really don't think they care about the tree.... they have had just about all the trees in their yard cut down. I think they are just giving us a hard time because we don't get along.
I don't like cutting down trees for no reason... and I am replacing some of them with smaller trees but... if you saw how many trees were in my yard... you would def see why some of them have to go.
There were over 52 trees when we moved in (not small trees either... huge oak trees) and at least 25 little trees growing from the acorns that keep falling. I am not cutting them all down.. but nothing can grow because there is absolutely no sunlight. My front and back yard are moss and mud right now.
Not only that but like I said earlier... the fence is cut out around that tree and it is only a matter of time till my dogs get through the gaps. I am going to ask them again tomorrow morning. Hopefully they will decide to say its ok.

where the fence sits right now... it is at least 3/4 on my side. they have about a quarter of it ... if that. I am having a land surveyor come here to mark the property lines anyway.... so we will see if the fence is actually in the right spot... everyone that has seen it has said the tree might be completely mine. i am hoping this doesn't turn into a huge war with the neighbors... I always try to be nice to them but they really have no interest in being friendly anyway.

52 trees is a lot. It sounds like this might become a power struggle if you don't get along. I'd approach it as a safety issue for their children -- any animal (possum, dog) might gain access to their yard. Some people are a serious pain the a s s -- good luck
