This is continued from yesterday's vent about how we may need to find a new place to live b/c his parents are being SO unfair. Everyone I told about this agrees, and when FH went to work last night and told his co-workers, they all said the same thing, too, which is just making him even angrier.
His family treats him like the 'black sheep' and its really getting old. I bite my tongue on it all the time (to them, anyway) and just vent to him and to my own family and friends. My dad thinks we just need to swallow our pride and pay the money they want per month and just deal b/c we're never going to find a house/apt/condo for $1200/month AND that will allow a dog too.
I told FH and he says we probably will end up just 'dealing' but he says he wants everything in writing from his parents from now on. He thinks that in 2 years time, they are just going to screw us again, and then he can take them to court and be officially done with them...
I'm just really worried about him... I know he has a bad temper but I've never heard him talking about wanting to be done wtih his family before! I am hoping it's all just blowing off steam and it will pass

Re: Really worried about FH...
Im soooo sorry you two are going through this. Just be there for FH, let him vent to you as much as possible so he doesn't take it out on his parents. It's a terrible situation that may pass with time, the anger will subside and you both do what you have to do to get by and in the future..own a house. It stinks..but if those are the conditions...and you don't believe you can save for your own house in the future..then definitely do it.
Totally agree with putting it in writing,,,thru an attorney.
Hang in there....

I am so sorry to hear. I hope all works out. I too agree that you should have it in writing. That you get a recite for each month you pay. It only will help you out in the long run. We live in FH grandparents apartment. We love them and get along with them. We actually eat din together at least twice a week. We too get a receipt or something saying we paid each month. It can only benefit you. Good luck!

I would move. I don't know the whole story but just so you know there are places out there for around that much money...and if its $100 more i say it's worth it. I know that the fairhaven apartments in hicksville are close to that....I'd look around...

Re: Really worried about FH...
So FH just called his parents and told them he essentially wants a 'contract' and he was more or less told, 'Oh well, you're not getting one.'
Lindsay, looks like we could end up being neighbors LOL!

I'm just sorry you need to deal with this. The older I get, the more I want to be drama-free.
I personally would move. If you were saving a substantial amount of money I'd suck it up...but I think you can find another apartment for $1200
Good luck.

So sorry about this.... but there are definitely places out there for the price you want. I pay $1100 for an upstairs apt in a house (absentee landlord) and I have a dog. We have access to the yard (the tenants downstairs do not use it) and in fact we built a bar back there and use it to store alllll of fh's cars and stuff (he's a mechanic / body guy). We do not pay for utilities either, and share the washer / dryer with the tenants downstairs (the washer is in the basement, which we have a key to). We are in Huntington. Start looking on craigslist, you will find something!!!

Thank you, ladies! It really means alot to be able to vent on this site and have others understand what you're going thru. And thank you to those who sent me FM as well, especially with apt info! I am seriously dreading the next family event b/c I KNOW there's going to be fireworks!

A suggestion for renting with a dog, I am and i have a pit/boxer mix that people see the pit and say forget it. He is an old man and a scaredy pit, but people just hate the breed. Offer a $500 deposit for the dog, in addition to the normal deposit you will have to make. We are paying $1100/month rent in a cottage but have to pay utilities. You are not getting a great deal with them. Check rentals off Craigslist. Good luck.

Yeah our dog is a red-nosed pit bull but he is registered w/ the vet as a pit/boxer mix so that we don't have issues. Thank you for this suggestion!

Re: Really worried about FH...
My FH has absolutely no relationship with his parents so I can relate, BUT there is so much less drama b/c of it!!! I say get out now and find a new place to live. There are definitely places out there that are cheaper or the same and will allow a pet.
