Just wanted to get an idea of what everyone thinks is a reasonable amount to ask BM's to pay for their dresses? I really have no concept of this so I don't know what's 'cheap' vs 'expensive'. I really don't want my girls to have to blow a ton of money just to be in my wedding so I'm trying to keep costs low while still having them look good!
How much are the dresses everyone else is picking? I found one today that I really like and it's $200 (more for alterations and extra fabric for girls over 5'7 which I have 2 of). Is that a lot of money?

When I was BM dress shopping, the girl at the store told me the average BM dress is around $200. HTH

i got mine for $160 for my girls, but was recently in a wedding that i spent $240 before $80 worth of alterations- id say THAT was too expensive!

I think $200 is the norm-i wouldn't worry about it...
ETA: The dresses my girls are wearing are $150 without alterations.

I've paid $100 - $230 for BM dresses. I heard that $200 is the avg. The dress I picked for my BMs is $225 with alterations included. I am letting the girls wear any shoe they want, and already have as long as they are black since the dress does to the floor. I am hoping it off sets the cost a bit so they don't mind as much.

I think that's a reasonable price. Mine wound up being cheaper than I was anticipating (we bargained him down to $165), but $200 is pretty average.

i think 200 is avg. my girls are paying 180 plus tax and alterations. the dress was originally 195 or 200 but they took some off bc i have 12 bm's! lol.

The last wedding I was in- we were asked what our budget was. My friend didnt want to pick out something that was more then we could all afford. We all said no more then 200 including alterations. I thought it was nice of her to ask us rather then tell us- this is the dress and price. She also said we can wear any shoes as long as they were white which helped out a little too.

I told my girls that I don't want them spending over $250 and that's including tax and alterations. Their dresses have the potential to be up to $275 (depending on how much they need to pay for alterations) so I offered to pay the difference for anyone that goes over $250.
ETA: My girls' dresses are $159, but then another $30 because of course the color I want comes from the designer's OTHER line, so it's extra to get it in my color. So they're really $189 plus tax and an alteration cap of $75.

Mine is $180, plus $60 for shall, I think that is pretty good comprared to some that are $300 and up I def say 200-250 is reasonable

I am aiming to keep the dresses below $200 before alterations and I'm letting them wear whatever shoes and jewelry they want. I am paying for hair and make-up.

My BM dresses cost $180 i was in a few weddings for my siblings and I sepent any where from $160 to $350. I think the average is like $170 to $200.

My girls are wearing dresses that are $250 before tax and alterations...but, I am paying for their hair, make-up and jewelry...and possibly letting them wear whatever shoes they want, or paying for their shoes if I want them to wear the same shoe... Not sure on the shoe thing yet though...

i think dresses in the $150 - $200 range are average. I started the order with some of my girls at a trunk show, so they ended up paying just under $200 with their alterations. The trunk show discount was 15%.
BTW, I recommend Valentina Bridal in Brooklyn for BM dresses - they're so nice in there. The dresses all came in perfect and on time, and the alterations are only $25!

My girls' gowns wound up being around $260 PLUS alterations...my MOH is $350 PLUS alterations. But because I felt terrible that it cost soo much...after they gave the initial deposit, I went in and paid their balance...so they only have to worry about alterations when the times comes....

My BM dresses were $210 not including alterations. Last wedding I was in my dress was $230 plus alterations (total came to over $300). I think before alterations anything under $250 is reasonable.
