Reasons You Dumped an Ex

Original post by SoonToBeMrsONeill

So I figured this could be a funny topic... Why have you broken it off with an ex in the past??

I know one girl on here that doesn't like peanut eaters...

Okay I'll start... I've dumped/stopped seeing guys for the following reasons:

They were insane.
One cheated
One lived in another state
another one was a crazy... like legit... like heyyyy i have a knife collection wanna see?!
One had crazy eyes and deemed himself thumper or jack hammer... something along those lines
I probably would have dumped Amy's ex for eating too many peanuts...

teehee!

haah w t f? was the knife collector related to crazy eyes?

quite possibly... knife collector also came from a family of crazies... in fact, after spending ONE DAY together he said to me: i'm going to make you my wife whether you like it or not.

At that point i knew to run in the other direction, and quickly!!! LOL

Just one... you could say we had ideological differences. He wanted me to convert and be an evangelical christian missionary with him (I'm Jewish. he mailed me a bible). And he wanted me to abandon plans for grad school and a career in research to stay home as a military wife and raise the kids.

That doesn't sound so bad Sarah

yeah right!!!

One of my bf's had no money and didnt work bc he was in USMMA. So I paid for everything. Then he kept saying we werent exclusive which we were. Then we sort of ended things bc he kept telling me we werent exclusive and then I kissed another friend and hes like you ruined something that could have been great. Come on he would hook up with other girls after we had broken up but the minute I do it thats why our relationship ended. Give me a break. needless to say we've been over for years

I've only had 2 boyfriends before FH:

BF # 1 I dumped because he was a druggie and he cheated on me! A**Hole!

BF # 2 I dumped because I met FH.

1. most recent ex-bf made it clear that marriage was not on his radar (after we were dating almost 7 months). We broke up and I never heard from him again.

2. bf in college (was a year behind me in school) ended up getting engaged some chick he met in class and I had started grad school. We had a lot of problems but that pretty much sealed the deal that I was nothing but a 'play toy' for him for the entire time we dated (3 yrs).

3. another ex bf didn't have his sh**it together either and notoriously cheap when we dated (still lives at home w. his parents in Westchester and he's pushing 36, even though he earns almost 90K working as an attorney in mid town). For my birthday one year, he bought me a photo frame (empty!) and took me to Friday's...Yea. that was a big clue that I had to dump him.

1- worked too much. Owned his own company- Could have lived an amazing life while not seeing him haha- he was too into himself and his family never sacrificed

2- too controlling. Never let me do anything I wanted to. Going to the bar meant i was cheating on him in his eyes

3- we were young when we met. dated 5 years. This one I am still good friends with him

I broke up with my ex (last serious relationship before FH) because he for so long he was all about his friends. When he finally began to see the toll it was taking on our relationship and get serious it was too little too late, I was over it and not looking back.

on a lighter note I went on a second date with this guy who thought it would be a good idea to take me to a shooting range (I'm big time anti guns- violence and ESPECIALLY HUNTING - thank god it was closed) then to a family bbq(didn't even tell me about this or the fact that i'd be meeting family) and on the way home he proceeded to quiz me on politics and tell me that women should stay home and clean the house (mind you I make twice the amount of money he does) - that was the second and last date.

Ouch to all but number 3 = UGH! I know that materialistic things don't mean much but when you're making money and don't have any real bills to pay... I mean come onnnnn

I'm happy you got rid of him!

Re: Reasons You Dumped an Ex

My only real serious relationship was before FH. I was with my ex for 7 years, we lived together for 6. We broke up because he was controlling, emotionally abusive, physically threatening (he once threw a sword into the wall next to me when I was screaming at him to not hurt our dog with it!), he was a liar, constantly told me that I was worthless, kept an entire room full of weapons that he would play with constantly including his gun, he had some kind of severe depression going on - he would be fine one day and the next day threatening to kill himself, I'm pretty sure he was having an emotional affair with a friend of ours (albeit one sided), he had no motivation to do anything with his life, depended on me for everything - financially or otherwise.

Believe it or not though, what really did it for me was he never said that he wanted kids, constantly told me that we would never get married. Then one day he told me that if it really meant that much to me to have a baby we would. Then a month later during one of our battles it came up and he said that he never said it. That sent me over the edge and it was it, we were done.

I had to live with him for 3 more months until he was able to get his sh!t together to move back to LI.

It took a year of hard therapy to get myself back together and find myself again. FH is perfect for me in every way shape and form.

Re: Reasons You Dumped an Ex

At the time I thought my ex was too much my friend, that there wasn't enough passion. I broke up with him, he tried to get back together with me for a while, and I started dating someone else. Eventually he stopped wanting to get back together. It wasn't until he stopped pursuing me that I wanted him back again. I took him for granted until he was gone. Then I beat myself up for treating him badly for the next couple of years, thinking of how it was my fault, crying countless times. It was so depressing for years. He stopped wanting me because of how I acted, I made my bed and had to lay in it. I didn't think I would ever meet anyone who understood me as well or treated me as well again.
BUT a few years later, and after dating others, I met my now FH. The relationship started with a different kind of connection...like infatuation. We've been dating now for 3 years and we've now built up a deep bond. I can't imagine living my life without him. I was given another chance, thank god...but better. Because when I look back to the ex, yes he was a really good person, we had an amazing connection, and I shouldn't have treated him that way; but the relationship wouldn't have worked over the course of a lifetime. There were other reasons I may have strayed. The ex has always been very depressed, he still is. He's actually currently taking a leave of absence from work to go into therapy for two weeks. He can't enjoy life and I don't know how I could have a happy life being with him. I also needed someone to push me to get on my own feet, FH has really helped me with that in a loving way. I can honestly say after years of thinking I ruined my shot at happiness, I feel things worked out for the best.
