You all have been so helpful..so here's another question for u. When it comes time to actually booking the hall which my fiance and I plan to do next weekend. Is it necessary for us and both sets of parents to go down to the catering hall. My mom figures since she and my dad are paying for most of the wedding that it should just be them and me and my fiance..but I have a feeling he is going to want to bring his parents too. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,
Mary

Re:Booking a Reception Hall
Although we finalized the contract in person, the written contract was sent to me in the mail. Also, it will be you and your fiance signing the contract, not your parents. My mother is paying for a large portion of the wedding, and she is seeing the hall for the 1st time this weekend (and I hope she loves it as much as we do).
That's probably the primary issue - the more people that are there, the more there will be offering their opinions, desires and demands. You don't need to hash that out when signing the contract and it need not be a group event. Make key decisions ahead of time - consult others if necessary, but only those who's signatures and checks are needed should be there.

I agree with Karen that too many people can cause confusion and if you parents are paying, you may want to afford them the right to not have his parents involved in the contract dealings part. Depends on how your parents feel. I would of course bring them out to see the place at the very first opportunity as I am sure they are probably very interested in seeing where the big event will take place more than anything.
