Rebuilding on the towers site...

Rebuilding on the towers site...

My husband and I took a drive into the city the other night and wanted to go to ground zero for like the 48724895th time just to walk around and think since the anniversary is approaching.

I still cannot believe what happened there. And I cant get over the fact that they are building there once again. They have already started to build over it and it just made me so sad.

My husband says that have to for financial reasons..i mean, he has a heart, but he takes a totally different stand on it than I do.

I would love to just see a memorial there honoring those who lost their lives and those who risked their lives to save others. He claims that we need some sort of buildings there again for money reasons. I dont agree.

What do you think?

I agree on a memorial, but your husband is right. It cost too much $$ not to have buildings where rent is being paid on that site.

On the other hand...I HATE the plans for the new buildings!! My husband and I are convinced that blind people oked those plans. That is the ugliest building that I have ever seen and that 'tower' that they are building is nasty!!!

I think there should be a nice memorial at the site, but I also feel we need to repair our finacial district.
I hope its bigger and better than ever before.

see lisa...i disagree with the plans...I really think they are perfect...

1. they allow for the 2 footprints to be a memorial
2. the tower is symbolic being 1776 feet tall
3. they made sure that no shadow would be cast on 9/11 at 9 am
4. there is the same amount of office space as before
5. I like the fact that there will be a recognizable dowtown skyline...like if featured in a movie people would say...oh there's NYC...

I don't know...I've got mixed feelings on this one. I work in Downtown Manhattan every day and am reminded all the time by what has happened here.

While I do believe there MUST be a memorial in place at the old site, I agree with rebuilding the towers. Although, I'm not crazy about the approved plans for what they will look like.

I also agree that they should not be so tall...but they really stood out and lit up the skyline...I miss them (and all who's lives were lost) so much.

I hope no one is offended by this...I know there may be some who have lost loved ones in this tragedy, as I knew some who perished too...but we've got to get our great city back...

Jennifer...i totally agree with you...I lost a friend there...and the more I think of it...I think that he would be upset if the city didn't rebuild...and become the great financial center that he was a part of...

I think in not rebuilding we are showing we are 'beat' and I think that's the LAST thing the heroes who perished would want.

I agree there must be a memorial, but we must also utilize the space to rebuild NYC. I am not 100% sure that I like the design of the new buildings, but I guess we will never make everyone happy. I feel as long as most of the victims families are o.k. with the plans, than that is what matters most. I would think that most of the victims would want the area to be rebuilt. If not, I agree it would be like we lost, and that is unacceptable!

I am 99% sure that both footprints of the towers are remaining empty as a memorial

I definitely want to see a BIG memorial constructed and am not opposed to building on the site, but I think it would be really eerie to work in the offices built there. I would be saddened everyday thinking about what happened right where I was standing and all the lives lost for no reason at all.

I was right in the middle of 9/11 and I haven't been back downtown since. Believe it or not, I STILL will not go down there unless everything is rebuilt. To me, it is just to sad to see a big empty pit where people and businesses once thrived. I am all for the rebuilding & the memorial. Unfortunately they have plans in the works to knock down my old building (which will be sad) but I think it would be sadder if it was not replaced (although I do agree that the building plans are not the greatest)

I think that we should rebuild. We are NOT a country of cowardness, but I think we should take care of our economy first before we go into further debt.
