because the husband's daughter passed away and they are mourning. I am so sad... She was so young. They are here and she died in Spain (home). My mom's cousin (the wife) is completely devistated.
They sent us a check along with the response. And I don't have the heart to accept it. Is that bad? And if I do take it, what do I write in the Thank You/Condolensce card?

You could write something like this:
Thank you for your thoughtful and generous gift. We are both grately saddened by your recent loss and will keep you and your family in our prayers.

It would be bad to not take the check. If you really don't want to keep the money, maybe donate the money to a worthy charity? Perhaps to whatever caused the young girls' death? Just a thought....

Wanda - send them a sympathy card with your love & a sincere thank you for the gift.... if you want - cash it & save it for a rainy day.... that way you have it, and you don't insult them that you aren't accepting their gift, but you still aren't using the $$$....

If you don't want to accept the check, hold onto it for not without cashing it and send them a sympathy card right away.

Did she die of an illness? you can alway sent a note and say that you actaully donated the money ...maybe to what she passed away from or to the Red Cross

It was a freak accident. I didn't want to press my mom for more info but my mom's other cousin (wife's sister) told me it was a car accident. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I think I am going to hold on to the check for a bit before I do anything with it. My family plans on sending the family something and I will do the same but from Carl and I. In the meantime I am going to send a card right away.
