We werent going to but so many people showed up at the church that we felt like it was the least we could do. It goes pretty fast, i think we had 100 people at the ceremony and it took 10-15 minutes.

ETA: It is kind of expected but its isnt 100% necessary

I think it's nice to have those. People wanna congratulate the bride & groom after the wedding and get a quick hug or kiss in there. I'm definitely planning on having a receiving line. I don't think my FH is a big fan of those, but it's a polite thing to do.

Kinda like bowing at the end of a recital <~ seemingly unnecessary, but considerate just the same.

i find that even when you dont plan on having one it ends up just happening unless you run away

don't have one, its annoying unless you have a small amount of people at the church (my opinion). If your having a hall ceremony you don't need one as long as you go up to everyone at ch and reception.

i'm definately having one at the church because it bothers me how so many people skip the church and just go to the reception... the ceremony is the most important part!!
I want to thank and notice who came.

We got married at the hall and took out pictures in the afternoon before we even went there, so we circulated at the CH instead.

No one will care about the receiving line once they see food and a bar.

We did one, it really didn't take long--we made it a bit shorter but just doing our parents and us (rest of the BP was on the other side of the entry area. We had probably 130ish people at the church (maybe more?) and it was done in like 10 min

It's nice to see everyone a first time and one on one...I would do it!

I thought about not doing it but I think it is important. I expect to have people at the ceremony who are not invited to the reception and I think it's right to acknowledge that they came for both them and for yourself. I would like to know who is there for tthe ceremony. I just have to plan not to chat too long with everyone!

I agree. They take up way too much time. Especially if you are getting married at the reception hall itself. Believe me, you want all the time you can get for the CH and the reception. You will see all of the people if you go to the cocktail hour and see them at the reception.

I am definitely going to do one, I think it is rude when there isn't one. Plus, I think I'd like to see who made it to the church.

One more thing- I have a really long time in between the church and reception so the longer it takes- the better!

Re: receiving line???

We are thinking of skipping it. Our Officiant will announce that we will meet everyone outside to take pictures and that we'll greet everyone personally at the cocktail hour. Reason: my grandma is in a nursing home and I want to visit her and take pics with her before we travel to the RH.

in think its kinda rude not to do it, people have travelled and spent $ to come to your wedding, the least you can do is a line or go around the tables to greet them and thank them for coming,

i plan on going around the tables at the reception, its time consuming, and i rather not, but i have to for the guests, cant be rude

Re: receiving line???

We did it and honestly really didn't take long at all. It was done within 10 minutes, maybe quicker. People dont stop to have conversations with you. We stood in the hallway by the door so most people just kept it moving to not hold up the line. Most just came up said congratulations, a word or two and hugged us. I was even surprised how quickly it went by. It was nice having everyone come up to us so happy and excited. Plus im glad we did bc we had a few people at our ceremony who couldnt make it to the RH or werent invited and i thought it was real nice of them to come. The grandmothers of our RB showed up, then i had a family friend who couldnt make it to our wedding bc it was the day of her daughters birthday and she was throwing her a big party.

We are having one. It takes no time, and I feel it's a nice 'thank you' to people who came to the church. I dont want to run out, and run into our limo so no one can see us.

Re: receiving line???

we didnt do it, the church w e got married in only gave us live 20 minutes after the cermony to take pictures bc they do confessions on saturday at 330pm so we didnt just because of the time crunch. So what we did was we went to our cocktail hours and went from table to table to meet with our guests
