We weren't going to do a receiving line, now the more I think of it might be rude to skip the receiving line after the ceremony at the church so we can just go take pictures and make it in time for our cocktail hour? My FI says lets skip it but I don't want to be rude. Please give me your opions! TIA

Re: Receiving Line or Not??
i was thinking about that too. after i thought about it i realized that thee will probably be a decent amount of people that will be at the ceremony who are acquaintances and are not invited to the reception. we are going to do it. hopefully it won't take up too too much time.

I am going to skip the receiving line also in order to do pictures, which will last a lifetime, the receving line will too. I am making sure that I go to the cocktail hour to spend more time with our guests. We also added an additional hour onto our reception.

Re: Receiving Line or Not??
i was very anti-receiving line until my own wedding. a LOT of people came to the church who were not invited to the reception - parents of the bridal party members, my mom's old co-workers, our pre-cana host couple, etc. it would have been very rude not to thank them for coming - so we had a receiving line. if you just put the B&G and their parents in the receiving line, it goes quick. there is no need to put the entire BP in the receiving line.

Re: Receiving Line or Not??
I'm planning on having a receiving line with just B&G and parents also - that way I feel less pressure to visit with everyone at the reception and have more time to party, dance, eat, and enjoy! :o)

I am not doing it! I hate receiving lines and plan to mingle with all my guests at the reception. There really wont be that many people at my ceremony that wont be at my reception.
By the way, just for timings sake- Karen -how long did your receiving line take with only you and DH and parents....?

I say stick with tradition and have a recieving line. I don't know what yr fam is like; but with my FIL's, you do things a certain way, know what I mean. And yes it is your day and nuts to what other people think, but you may be better off just having the rec line. Good luck!

We were married at Flowerfield, so we skipped it. We greeted everyone at our cocktail hour! It worked out fine.

it took no more than 20-30 minutes, and our church was packed!

Re: Receiving Line or Not??
I think it is rude not to do it. People also expect it. If you don't, you are going to spend the entire first hour of the reception having to say hello to everyone.

Re: Receiving Line or Not??
I didn't want one...but later on I thought that if I took time to go to a ceremony & didn't get a proper receiving line (as a guest) I would have thought it to be odd at best. So we did it & it took all of 10 minutes & I got some great candid pics from it!

HAVE TO DO IT! I think it's rude not to do it also. I mean people are coming to see you married at the church. At least they are nice enough to come to the church.....some just go to the reception for food. So it's nice to greet them and not just run out on them after the ceremony.

I think it is different if you are getting married at the hall. The people who come to the ceremony are the ones who are invited to the wedding... And cocktail hour starts immediately after the ceremony ends. I will see them there!
