Re: reception and church time to kill??!!
I'm going to have a nice big four hour wait till my cocktail hour. Due to the fact the time change is that weekend or the weekend before so we don't want to lose any daylight for pics. I think my mom was talking about doing cake or pastries and coffee after the service at the church. It won't take four hours but at least it kills some time. I'll let you know if i come up with any ideas.

Re: reception and church time to kill??!!
We will have four hours between end of ceremony and CH start, so I expect people will go back to their hotels and change into their evening wear for the reception . . . no one will wear their 'fancy duds' to the 2:30 ceremony.
Some will go back to the Garden City Hotel and hang with my parents who will have a little GTG at the bar/restaurant, but I know I've been at weddings like that before and appreciate being able to wear my reception outfit to the reception and not the whole day.
People are used to travelling and have been to tons of weddings, don't worry . . . they can handle it! And they'll be excited to do it. People wouldn't come from out of town if they found the wedding to be 'inconvenient' -- they'll see the times on the invitation . . . don't worry!

Re: reception and church time to kill??!!
MOST weddings have a big gap if you are getting married at a church and reception at night. Theres nothing you can do bc at a catholic church if you get married on a sat, you have to do it by 3 or 3:30 the latest bc they have mass that day and have to be done before that. EVERY wedding ive attended had a large gap. Only 2 weddings didnt and thats bc they were at the RH. People know this, and people who go to weddings often know to expect this. Not every guest will attend your ceremony. MAny just go to the reception. Then many guests who do attend ceremony go dressed casually, then go home to change and go to reception later
People deal with it and its not your responsiblity . No wedding ive ever attended did the bride concern herself with what i did in between and no reason for her to do so. At my wedding i had a 4 hour gap and it worked out just fine. Our Rh did have a separate lounge for guests that did show up early with some food and drinks and couches. But most ppl who did come to ceremony came dressed regular, went home and changed. Or found something to do in between.
Also remember that you need to take pictures, and they do take time. You need time for the drive from the church to picture location and then give yourself about 1.5 hours to 2 hours for pictures. It took us 2 hours for pics. Then time to head to Rh from picture location.

what about your parents house or his parents, what if they invite ppl over for coffee and some light snacks. Or they can just go back to the hotel, they can all even go to the lobby and have some drinks, seems like your concern is the OOT guests. They can go to the ceremony dressed regular, then go back to the hotel and get ready. Dh and i have a wedding in september, i am in the bridal party, and were staying overnight at the hotel. He is going to hang out in the room while i take pics with the bp and then when its time for the reception he will get dressed and come. I am sure many ppl would prefer to go dressed regular rather than being dressed from 2pm or around that time and hanging out all dressed up not doing much.
It will work out dont worry, you have more than enough to worry about. Who knows they probably have their own plans set already. When i asked everybody already knew what they were going to do and had their own plans.
Ive also had to do it when DH was in a bp, he had to go take pics after the ceremony for a couple of hours before the reception started and he was going on the party bus. So dh and everybody kept asking me what im going to do, and i just told them that its ok, im grown i can handle this on my own hahaha. So i decided with the extra few hours i had, to go to a salon and get my hair and make up done, and it worked out perfectly for me.

I have 4 hrs before my CH begins i say they can either go back to their hotels or go for drinks somewhere. Can a close by Aunt or Uncle host something for you. Drinks tidbits provided by you of course??? Since my RH is a half hour away & most people willbe changing hotels to the one by the RH my OOT will be busy with that stuff. Believe me!

Re: reception and church time to kill??!!
I have been to 11 weddings this past year and half and had a huge break between C and R. . we also leave the ceremony go check into the hotel and go to the bar and then get ready... if it was close to home then we all go home and get ready and chill in our own homes .. no big deal at all

Re: reception and church time to kill??!!
good question! my RH lets people hang out for awhile in the reception room where they serve champagne and strawberries and cold hors deurves before the cocktail hour. I think my mom may have a little afternoon snack thing at our house.
