Reception at an Inn?

Reception at an Inn?

Hi girls, if anyone can help me with this, I know you can. My FI and I are just starting to plan our wedding, and we've been talking a lot about the weddings we've been to together. By far, our favorite was at an inn in Maine - it had 10 or 12 rooms and all of them were taken up by people in the wedding, and was in the most beautiful setting by a lake. The ceremony was outside and the cocktail hour was too - there was a porch area to sit outside, or you could mingle out on the lawn by the gazebo. The sit-down part was in the inn's dining room, where there was room for a small dance floor. We all stayed there for the night and had breakfast there in the morning... it was a perfect weekend.

This is exactly what I want for my wedding, but there's no WAY i'm asking my family and friends to drive 8 hours to Maine. I'm planning on having 75 or 80 people at the reception, most of whom will probably just drive there for the day and then go home at night. I've been looking at websites for Hudson Valley inns, but most of the ones that look like what I want are still over 2 hours north, which is too much to ask my friends to drive back and forth to in one day.

So here's my question... does anyone know of an inn (or B&B, if it's big enough) less than 2 hours from Brooklyn where I could have a ceremony and reception for about 80 people? Long Island, Rockland/Westchester, or even Jersey, would be great. Please help - I'm spending so many frustrating hours Googling that my FI is starting to forget what I look like!

I'm having my wedding at The Three Village Inn in Stonybrook. I absolutely love it and am so happy that OOT guests can stay over right there.

I don't know much about that...sorry! But I am going to suggest that you Google it and this way you can see the scenery.

Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz is great. It is probably under 2 hours from Brooklyn.

Here is the website:

I second Three Village Inn. It's very pretty and you get a lot for your money. It was too small for us though.

fernbrook bed and breakfast

this is the place i wanted for my wedding.... oh my goodness is it exactly what you want.

the only reason i didn't go with it is because they didn't have ANY days in october of this year when i was looking.

it's in central nj, it's off the beaten path. for the price, you also get a bridal room for the bride and groom on the wedding night.

you can have your ceremony in one of the two or three gardens. you can have the coctail hour in this little house, next to a little pond that is sooooo perfect.

i soooooo wanted this place, but i also soooooooo wanted an october wedding.

fm me if you have any questions.

Re: Reception at an Inn?

Thanks so much for the quick replies! The Three Village Inn looks like the kind of place I was talking about. I thought Stony Brook would be too far, but according to Mapquest it's only an hour and twenty one minutes from my house. Definitely worth checking out.

I've been to Mohonk Mountain House, and it's soooooo pretty, but probably a little too expensive and a little too far for me. Any other ideas for Westchester/Rockland, or somewhere else on Long Island?

Re: Reception at an Inn?

libby2595 , the Fernbook looks AMAZING. And according to my trusty Mapquest.com, it's only an hour and fifteen minutes away. Ooh, I'm so excited, just this afternoon I was banging my head against the wall, so frustrated because Google was getting me nowhere, and all I had to do was come on LIWeddings. Now I have some places that I'm dying to see! Thank you so much!

I'm still about a month or two away from booking a place, so if anyone has more suggestions, please keep them coming!
