Re: Reception at VFW or American Legion Halls
While I think holding it at these spaces can be an amazing event. Make sure you know what you are getting yourself into interms of things you will have to now pay for that you wouldn't necessarily pay for at a standard venue.
Tables, chairs, linens, silver, glass, china, etc.
What is great about it is that you can totally create a gorgeous unique space, but what some people dont understand is that it ends up almost being equal in cost to a cost conscious venue thats all inclusive of these items. HTH

Definitely look at the Elk's Lodge in Lynbrook and the Firehouse in Wantagh. Both are beautiful and could be easily dressed up to look goregous for a wedding!

You are so right, I didn't think about it, by the time you get everything the price could be the same. I am not sure what to do. Has anyone heard of Charisma Ballroom? This is another place we are considering?

i heard that the Knights of Columbus in Oceanside is Beautiful and has good food (they have their own caterer) I am not sure on the cost but i would check it out. I have been to the one in Lynbrook which is also very nice, but the food is not as good there. Good Luck!

I am getting married at the K of C in Seaford - also called THE MEMORARE. The place is beautiful ... holds 300 people seated - great dance floor and they provide centerpieces, dinner, wedding cake, linens, china, top shelf open bar EVERYTHING THAT A REGUALR HALL does except it wont leave you bankrupt. They have a bridal suite and everything. Please do youself a favor and check it out. I'm having a wedding for 200 guests and I look forward to a great even and Im being smart financially. Nothing causes more stress than financial problems on a new marriage .... and that Im trying to avoid. Plus, I dont feel like I have to sacrifice anything! Also, the one in Oceanside is beautiful too!! You will be surprised and your guests will be pleasantly surprised as well!

Check out the Sons of Italy hall in Deer Park also. It's really nice, holds 200 people, and includes everything at a very inexpensive price. They also allow you to bring in any extra food you want (I am doing a homebaked venetian hour and candy buffet). I found a ballroom to rent close to my mom's house or I would have booked there.
Thank you ladies so much for your input... I will definitely check all of these places out. If any other suggestions please let me know, it is hard when you live out of town (in Atlanta)
