reception dilemmas

Hello all. I need some suggestions. I would love to do an outdoor/garden type reception in L.I. next September. We are on a strict budget, but still would love to have a beautiful wedding. Any suggestions?

Maybe you can have a nice Sunday afternoon reception.

But where? In someone's backyard? I did hear that having a wedding at someone's house can be just as expensive as having it at a hall.

Brunch is becoming a more popular trend for low-budget weddings. You should look into local parks in the area, botanical gardens, museums. I think that's a good place to start.

I guess it depends what you mean by 'budget' since everyone's idea is different.
All the places we visited I got out of a directory of reception halls from a bridal magazine. It had a listing of all counties and what halls were where. It gives an indication of prices, max capacity, and if there is an outdoor facility or not.

I had te same problem. We were looking for alternatives to where we are booked, but they are mucho $$$$$$$$$. Vinyards, etc. If you go to a park you have to get permits, rent portapotty trailers (the nice ones are expensive), tents, etc. It does run a lot more and a lot more work.

Maybe fine a place that you have have cocktail hour outside?? How many guest? What are you looking to spend?
