I am having a disagreement with my FMIL and FH is in the middle of it. She says it is in poor taste to have mothers who are widows to be introduced at the reception. I dont think it is poor taste and I rather do it to acknowledge the parents who are still with us (we are also doing memorial candles). I told my FH that if she don't want be introduced so be it. Does anyone else think that it is tacky or poor taste to introduce single parents? I have just about had it with everything she is saying. It is like she is questioning everything we are doing and most of it is too late to change. Thanks guys.

Re: Reception Entrance question
I don' t think it's tacky at all! It's so nice to be honored as a parent...personally, I think that it would be tacky to NOT introduce the parent!

It's not tacky at all... you do what you want - if she doesn't want to be introduced, then fine - don't... you're the bride - you make yourself happy d@mn it!!!

That's not tacky. In fact I think it would raise more eyebrows if a widow was neglected during the reception.

Re: Reception Entrance question
what is 'tacky' about it exactly? just because a parent is a widow means they shouldn't be acknowledged and recognized as they would if their spouse was alive???? that makes ZERO sense to me.
if it wasn't for the parent---the bride or grooms wouldn't be here....no matter what, they should be recoginzed

Re: Reception Entrance question
No offense, I think your FMIL need to think first before saying something...let say (god forbid/knock of the wood) she becomes a widow tomorrow, how does she feels if no one acknowledge her on her son's wedding?
I guess she needs to know what TACKY really mean!!

Re: Reception Entrance question
My FMIL is a widow, both of my parents are remarried, sh didn't want to walk in ALONE, so she is having her friends husbands, all 8 of them escort her. They will be called Knights of the Round Table (inside joke) Maybe she just doesn't want to walk in alone, so she made up some excuse. Just giving you my take on it.

Re: Reception Entrance question
That sounds really off to me. She is the mother of the groom, she should want to be acknowledge by all the guest who are their to celebrate with you and FH as well as the joining of both families.

Re: Reception Entrance question
Thank you all for your input. She used the word 'tacky' which in turn made me alittle angry. Right now we are going to try to have them maybe walk in together so they are not by themselves. UGH!! I can't wait until I can relax and stop stressing. Again thanks you guys you made me feel alot better.

Is she maybe worried about walking in by herself? My parents are divorced and my dad is remarried. My mom had concerms about walking in to the reception by herself when everyone else would have a partner. But we solved this by having my BIL walk in with her.

Re: Reception Entrance question
I agree with everyone. My father passed away and at first my mom wasn't comfortable being introduced (which is different than tacky!), so we thought about not introducing any of the parents, so no one was left out. now my mom is ok with it and we are planning on having my male cousin escort my mom.
Isn't there another son, uncle, friend, brother, cousin, etc. that could escort your FMIL??

Completely agree, there is no reason that she shouldnt be introduced unless she just doesnt want to...I think not acknowledging her presence is worse then her being a widow

Re: Reception Entrance question
My DH's father passed away. We introduced his mother at the wedding and had her escorted by her other 2 sons. It was really nice. She felt extra special because she got escorted by 2 guys.

Re: Reception Entrance question
I don't think it is gauche to announce single parents at all!! My mom is divorced from my dad and not remarried...she will be announced. She may walk with my brother though. Would she feel better if she walked with one of FHs siblings [if there are any] or if she has a brother?
Don't let her input get to you. Our weddings [I'm the day before you!] are almost here. There is no time for nonsense as far as I'm concerned! Just do as you wish and let her remarks go in one ear and out the other!! No worries...the HM is almost here!
