Reception Hall family owned -- need aadvice

So one of the reception halls on long island is owned by a cousin of one of my relatives. We know them and my relatives have told me they'd call them and get me a good deal. This is a place I might like anyway. The only problem is then that my relatives (some of them I'm not fond of or close to for various reasons) would then probably know how much I paid and might somehow push their way into my wedding planning. I'm sort of concerned. It's one of those complicated family things...
What would you do?

Also, another hall, that's basically #1 on my list to look at is owned by the family of someone I went to school with in 8th grade. We really didn't like each other, but we're not enemies or anything and we've seen each other since. He;s close to my best friend. Do you think I should get her to try to contact him and see if he can help, or is that kind of tacky? Do you think I should mention when I go there that i know the family? I'm pretty sure his mom and dad would remember me...although I don't know if his not liking me will work against me..maybe I'm being stupid..but I just want to get a feel for what you think! Thanks!

I'd go see your family's in first before you said anything to see if you even really love it. If not, then you've crossed it off your list without having to deal with the crap. If you do, then yes, I'd say it's worth it.

As for the friend from 8th grade...yes, I'd say it would be tacky to have your friend contact him. But, I dont' think it would be bad to mention that you know him while in the meeting with the BM.

My dad gre up across the street from 1 of my florists & I didn't mention it . I met with his wife, & it seemed like if I brought it up it was obvious I was fishing for a discount. I'm not smooth like that.

I understand about the realtive's hall. My mom wanted me to see if my uncles knew any bands, etc, b/c they are musicians & know people, but I didn't want to feel locked into anything, I could be more business like & professional ( and not a push over) with a complete stranger.
