Reception Hall Shopping!

I went to visit Milleridge Cottage and Westbury Manor yesterday, and loved them both! We just stopped by because we were around the area and wanted to take a quick look -- I have real appointments set up for next weekend (although we did meet with someone at WM who went over everything basically).

At Milleridge, it looked like they were setting up for something but I really liked the whole feel of the place. It's definitely our style - simple but still a beautiful place. I'm wondering about the cocktail hour - I know the setup is in the atrium room, but I'm just wondering if that's the only room or is that lobby area open too? I'm leaning towards a November wedding so I'm not sure if the outside area would be used, which I also really liked. Just concerned about the space since we'd have around 180 guests. Not worried about the reception room--that was huge!

Westbury Manor looks amazing - a little over our price range on a Saturday night but it seems like you get a LOT for your money there. I feel like we'd be in good hands there, too.

We are also going to look at Swan Club, Woodbury Country Club, and possibly The Woodlands. If anyone has any feedback or pricing/quotes for these places please feel free to FM me! We're thinking a Saturday night in November, but are flexible.

Thanks, ladies! :)

Reception Hall Shopping! - Long Island Weddings

We booked the Milleridge. They set up tables in the lobby as well so you would be utilizing both spaces. There will also be another bar in the cocktail hour room so guests can use that and the main bar. The decorations at the milleridge village and in the cottage in november are gorgeous- you would have beautiful pictures! You definitely don't need to worry about space for the reception room or the cocktail hour because I went to look in during a wedding for 200 guests and space wasn't an issue at all. nobody seemed to have issues finding a seat either.

Westbury manor is also really really pretty, I've been to many events there. But I didn't want a venue with multiple weddings at the same time, so we didn't look at WM, Woodbury CC or the swan club.

I went to a wedding at the woodlands and it was really great. food was phenomenal, and the mansion is just so pretty. It reminds me alot of the milleridge, but I didn't like the set-up of the reception room. It's one big rectangle with the dancefloor in the middle, so if you are on either corner of the room, you would have to get up and walk to the middle to be able to see the cake cutting, first dance, etc.

Reception Hall Shopping! - Long Island Weddings

Another Milleridge bride here!! I was sooo torn about deciding between WM and the Vineyards out east initially that I toiled over it for about two weeks, and ultimately decided neither and we put on planning to a halt! There were other reasons but had we the money for the deposit I would have probably booked Westbury Manor after we tasted the food. Their dedication, passion and service was unparalleled. And I still secretly want to have another event there just because of that fact alone.

Honestly the only thing I did not like was that there is more then one event at a time. Truth be told, FH and I are hard to please we critique EVERYTHING soup to nuts from the minute we enter to the bathroom the people---And honestly this and some other personal snafu we had at the time we went there--were the only reasons we didnt book Westbury Manor.

My sister was married at Swan Club in 2004 and it was gorgeous. I cannot say I remember the food but I loved that it was tucked away, different and the grounds/ outdoor ceremony space was beautiful and easily accomodating even in the rain!

We toured Woodbury Country Club while they were having a day wedding and got to taste some of the left over cocktail hour food and it was delish. Mary the BM was awesome I loved her!! However, like I said, we pour over every detail and I hated the drive up, the look of the outside and when you walk in....it felt like an office building to me from the late eighties. While the outside ceremony spaces and the pool are impressive --and even the downstairs recently renovated modern space is pretty---something about it just didn't make want to come back and I couldn't see us there.

I was dyinnngggg dying to visit the Woodlands but we couldnt work out the schedule to go in so I had them email me what they could and after going over the menus and price ranges I couldnt justify to myself even though the place is gorgeous, they were quoting 130pp and up. i wasnt crazy about the set up of the dance floor AND lastly FH found out they were part of the SINGAS catering group --and hes had undesirable experiences with them in the past so we never even made it to the front door :/

And lastly---and on a complete whim---and two rescheduled appointments, we visited the Milleridge Cottage. I had eaten at the Inn a few times, visited the little Village and I was always fond of it, and saw a gorgeous picture of the atrium so I said, hmmmm lets check this out.

I was instantly like wow. This is everything I wanted. Its historic, no ugly yucky carpets in the actual main reception room, roomy bridal suite, simple, but elegant and grand all at the same time. And again, my only issues with it thus far: the unsightly water tower behind the building...not as big of an outdoor space as other venues, and no option for valet.

All I can say about the food so far: generous portions and the best damn crab cakes I have ever tasted!!!! It wasnt just all bedcrumb flavored like crab!

Anyway I've ranted on far too much.Hope my little tidbits have given you some insight and some things to consider! Best of luck!

Milleridge is my venue too!!! It is sooo lovely and everyone there has been so nice to us! I truly love it - it has that rustic yet elegant charm. It feels like you're walking into a cozy home! I am so excited to get married there next year :)

We are at the Milleridge as well. Plenty of room for indoor cocktail hour, the atrium and the bar lobby area is large. The staff, David and Pam are fantastic to work with!!! It's been stress free and they are very accommodating.

We looked at Woodbury CC. It is a really pretty venue. One of the rooms was just recently redone and looks really nice. Then other room wasn't really our style and I didn't like the set up of the room. When we went to see the venue we really liked the staff there. Feel free to FM me if you want to hear more feedback from our appointment there!

Reception Hall Shopping! - Long Island Weddings

My future Sister-in-Law had her reception at Milleridge and had a big guest list. More than 180 and everyone said it was really beautiful and if I'm not mistaking FH mentioned to me that the lobby area is open during the cocktail hour so everyone won't be on top of each other.
