Reception halls have either 20% , 18% or 15% gratuity, and than if you want to find out your budget- reception hall only- make sure you include all the 'tips' such as you have to TIP the Maitre'd and the Bridal Attendent and those can be a few hundred dollars depending on how many guests you have...

For budget purposes, you can simplify it:

price per person for food and booze= X

total bill after tax, service, and gratuity= 1.5X

So, if you're paying $100/pp, the final bill will be about $150/pp

Other than service charge, you have taxes of 8.625%.

If your charge is $100 a head before tax and gratuity, this would bring your charge to $128.18.

On top of this, you usually are supposed to give an additional tip to the maitre d, on average, they range between $3-$5/head.

ETA: I had the decimal in the wrong place on the tax, yes, I'm in finance/accounting!

Remember that the service charge is also taxed at almost every RH, so you want to to add the service charge and then calculate the tax based on the total.

Price Per Person = $100
18% Service Charge = 100 x 1.18 = $118
8.625% sales tax = 118 x 1.08625 = $128.18
