reception halls 20%service charge

any of you ladies find a way to wheel and deal out of that ridiculous charge? one of the places I love is charging it and its making it almost 4k more then the other places offering same package!?!? im hoping to talk them down to at least meet the price of the cheapest place that has the same package!
anyone have any luck or tips on negotiating that too?

I've never heard of anyone getting out of the charge. It's pretty standard everywhere you go.

Every place that I went to has that charge. It's kind of annoying, though. Like they should just include it in the price, but I guess they want to make it seem cheaper than it really is.

Well Floral Terrace and Sand Castle do not charge the 20% service charge. I saved thousands!!

:( med manor has all inclusive package which I'm liking, they don't charge it. I like the sterling better but they do charge it. I have few more places to go before I start food tasting, but im gonna try to get them to come down on the package if they won't remove that fee, that's if i still like it add much after I try the food that is!

Nope!! That charge will help pay for the staff, bartenders, valet etc. It all depends on your contract!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's a non-negotiable. Maybe some places just don't charge it, but if they're a place that does usually, I don't think you're getting out of it.

well then I hope the place I love is willing to come down on price per person! has anyone ever negotiated sometime down in price per person?
my strategy right now is too just being in the other places ffolders and show them what I get if I go else where. and see what happens! any suggestions?

Yeah you're not able to get out of it. Mine is 23%, however I was able to be negotiate on price pp.

I was just going through all the wedding stuff I had. I saw that Woodbury Country Club only charges a 7% service charge. So that's great. My place went down in price pp the first day we went to see them. Then when we booked, they went down even more. What me and FH did was just decide on a place we loved regardless of price because I think most places go down in price when you book anyway. But definitely try to get a lower pp price and check out Woodbury Country Club, they were beautiful once you get to where the ceremony, CH and reception are.

Everywhere has one, whether they include it in the price or add it as a 'service fee'.

Absolutely you can negotiate the pp!! I didn't take the first price offered by any vendors so far. You can always negotiate.

Totally agree with kroedel87. Most things are negotiable you just have to ask if they are at all negotiable with the price. If not, you can try to get extras or ask if you can eliminate something to bring the price down. Def compare apples to apples too so you know which is the better deal.
