I am trying to learn about this whole reception/catering hall thing. I didnt know that you were given a minimum amount of guest to guarantee, what happens if you dont meet the minimum? Also I was wondering, how much was your per person rate for a saturday evening wedding. I would also like to know if Spring/Summer months are more expensive. Thanks, any x-tra advice will be greatly appreciated!

Re: Reception halls & Saturday Evening Weddings
If you guarantee a minimum of 130 that's what you have to pay for. (even if you only have 120 guests attending)
I cannot advise you on the pp. It really depends on the hall. If you have particular ones in mind, many of the brides on here have that information. My info is out-dated.
Congratulations on your engagement and happy planning

saturday night is also the most expensive night too. congrats and it looks like you have time to shop around. go to halls and see what you like. pp on a sat night add on like 10-20 a head than a friday or sunday night. hope that helps. oh and the min depends on the night and size of the room.

Spring isn't really 'high season' price wise until you hit mid-May. The season runs through October and then prices drop again. If you guarantee a number you have to pay that amount no matter how short you fall. Many halls are flexible in terms of throwing in some extra, like an extra station during CH if you don't meet your minimum.

I don't know if you have a hall in mind yet but I would definetly suggest giving Barbara a call at Hamlet Willowcreek Country Club. The place is being built now and they have great preconstruction prices. It is in Mt. Sinai, not sure which area you are looking at.

if you don't make your minimum, some halls will feed your vendors for no extra charge, which is nice...

The ladies are correct. In my experience I found that Saturday nights are the most expensive. The most expensive months were May, June, September, and October.

We were on a budget and found that the prices were $$$ for a Sat night in May and June which is what we were considering. The cheapest was 79.00 all grats included and that still seemed alot for 5 hours.

Our October reception at the Stewart Manor Country Club was $65 pp. (prices might have changed since then). It was the same price regardless of time of year or day of the week. (stewartmanor.com)
Good luck, Donna 10/5/03
