reception on water

reception on water

i know i have posted several times about reception sites, but i just can't make up my mind. i hope finding a dress will be easier. we have decided we want our reception on long island and on the water. the church is in centerport, so we dont want our guests to travel too far for the reception (hamptons). any suggestions? i was thinking about a yacht club, but don't know where to locate info on all yacht clubs on long island. the northport yacht club which is 10 minutes from the church is newly renovated and right on the water, but they don't specialize in weddings (as most yacht clubs) so i dont know how the food will be. there is lands end, port jeff cc (dont think it's big enough) and the crescent beach club. any other suggestions would be great. please help! i have such butterflies right now. we want something low key, no glitz and glimmer. we would love the combo of landscaped grounds and the water, but many of those on the water do not have beautiful grounds surrounding the site, it's just the water.
sorry this is so long and repetitve, but i really need the help of those that are more experienced with this. we are planning for summer 2002 and will take a fri night, so we have some flexibility with timing. any suggestions?

I have heard good things about the Thatched Cottage and was wondering if you, or anyone, knew the prices??? Looks expensive?!!

Thanks...

I really like the beginning to Sweet Emotion too!! Eventhough at this point we're looking to songs from the Blues Brothers, that is an alternative just in case we change our minds.

If you don't mind telling me, (we live in Buffalo currently and can only search on the web), how many people would it fit, and is it really nice? Also, with the price, was that including the grats and taxes or just before price?!!

Thanks a bunch for your help!!!

The place is nice; it has a very pretty deck outside and, if weather permits, the cocktail hour is held out there. I felt it was better for a smaller affair; the banquet room is small (they claim that the main banquet room could accommodate 150, but I wouldn't put more than about 120 in the room, and that is even pushing it) and the dance floor is also quite small. They have a lower level room which could accommodate more people, but it wasn't as nice as the room above.

The price did not include tax or gratuity.

It was average, I believe it was somewhere around $85.00/pp, and that was before any negotiations. We didn't inquire further, because the main room was too small.

Thanks...

I went to Thatched Cottage, and they wanted $120 pp. for a Sat. evening. I thought that was pretty steep.
We are having our rehearsal dinner at the printers Devil in Port Jeff.

Are you having the ceremony at Flowerfield?

Wow. When we went there in September, it was definitely not that much. It was much cheaper than Land's End (who charges $120 pp on Saturday night.) I guess they hiked up their prices.

Anyone used them for their invitations?

thanks for the response!
haven't heard great things about the thatched cottage and my best friend (i am her moh) is getting married at flowerfields this summer.

Dani,

It sounded to me you wanted to stay closer than Lindenhurst, but since Chateau Le Mer has been mentioned, I will also mention John Anthony's on the Water in Babylon. It overlooks the Great South Bay and has the Robert Moses Bridges as it's backdrop. http://www.johnanthonys.com

www.stonecaterers.com
They cater the Vanderbilt Mansion on the Great South Bay.

No problem on the photography. No need to apologize. I do try to work the package to meet all the considerations, but good luck to you and do drop in.

Connetquot River, not the bay. Sorry

I just got an email from someone on this board saying that Stone is no longer the caterer for the mansion. The best place to go is www.dowling.edu. The mansion is on the grounds of Dowling College. Call the college and ask for the Office of Special Events. They can direct you to the new caterer. They have a virtual tour on the site that includes parts of the mansion and its courtyard. Go to General Info, and then Virtual Tour. You will have to download the viewer if you cannot see anything. It gives you a 360 degree view of the pictures. I hate to make things complicated, but I prefer not post my email here anymore. I am getting mail from solicitors who say they got my email on here. I am already married and do not need these services, so I would rather not get this mail piling up. However, I would love to mail you a few pictures and take this offline if you need details. You can either post your email if you are comfortable, or I will post mine to help you out. Good luck!

i saw the sunken meadow place on the internet. to me it was just one big room, very (too) casual. reminded me of a family renuion bbq place. it's so hard to decide. we also want 1 wedding at a time, so chateau le mer is out. i was thinking distance wise anywhere from port washington to port jefferson - north or south shore. this is such a nerve racking decision.

Could kick myself for 'wasting' invitations on family members who could care less

Hang in there dani. The wedding planning can be as fun or as stressful as you let it. Sorry about the Pavillion at Sunken Meadow. Like I said, we never bothered to look there because we simply loved John Anthony's when we went there and never looked at anything else.

Like you, I wanted a place on the water that did just one affair at a time. Unfortunately, John Anthony's does not do just one at a time. They do two, but at least they stagger them by a half hour and the feedback has been so positive that we're not worried.

I just got to the site. Either it is back up, or you need to clear your cache. When you go to www.stone.caterers.com, hold down the shift key as you click refresh or reload. The page should come up. On the locations tab there is a picture of the fountain in the courtyard of the mansion. We had our ceremony on the steps in front of the fountain, and the guests had chairs around the fountain.
