Hello All, Let's say you want to look at 2 - 3 reception places. You go to the first one and you like the room, but you want to look at the other places. Can you ask them to 'hold' the room for a few weeks so you can look at the other places? Or do you go to look at the other places and hope that the first room will still be available on your wedding date if you like that room the best? Thanks

Re: Reception Selection
Just tell them you have a couple of other appointments before you can make your decision and that you will call them when you decide. The will probably ask you when are you going to decide and usually, as a courtesy, hold the date for a week or so.

Re: Reception Selection
It never hurts to ask. I've found in this process that people are very amenable because they want your business. The worst that can happen is they say that no, unfortunately, they can't hold the room.

Re: Reception Selection
I would tell them that i have to bring my parents back to see it since they are helping out with the wedding and they wont be available till next weekend is it possible to hold it till then.
I have heard of some places telling brides that they can only hold it for a day or 2 and if someone else comes along you can lose it. When they have said they want to look at other places. Its their hidden way of rushing you.

i dont think any place will hold your date for a few weeks...maybe a few days. but if someone comes down and wants your day and is willing to book on the spot, chances are they will take you off the date. its always good to have a little wiggle room with your date anyways, this way when you fall in love with a place and they are already booked for 'your date' you can fall back to another date that works as well. good luck in your search!

I was thinking the exact same thing. I don't think a hall will hold your date for more than AT BEST a day. Especially if that day is during the 'busy season'.

Re: Reception Selection
I don't know any places that will hold a room for several weeks or even days without a deposit.

Re: Reception Selection
I'm guessing that if we were to give them a deposit to hold the date for a week...the deposit would be non-refundable? I really truely wouldn't mind paying a small deposit to hold the date so we can look at a couple of more places.
