Hey, I'm looking for unique reception venues for an Oct. 2006 wedding. Any ideas? Also, anyone have any luck with off-premise catering. If all else fails, I was thinking of renting a tent and getting the event catered.

Re: Reception site
When you say unique does that mean you don't want a reception at traditional hall? What about a mansion? Outdoor will be tough in October (especially if it's as damn cold & rainy as this October has been) but you can get a heated tent. Are you looking on LI or in the city? How about a vineyard or a museum?

Yes, no traditional hall if possible. I'm beginning to look at the vineyards as an option, too.

Re: Reception site
I too wanted something a little different, so I looked into mansions, which are very expensive (site fees). But, I found West Sayville Country Club which is a small mansion. No site fees and very reasonable cost. It can hold the most 160 people, which is fine for me because I'm having a small-medium wedding. It's very old, it has the original ceiling, walls, and moldings which are beautiful. It has 2 fire places which will be running, because I'm having a winter wedding. The dance floor is a separate room from the reception area and it is glassed in. You can see the dance floor from the dining area because it has big glass windows between the 2 rooms and 3 sets of doors. It's a very different layout from the typical reception hall. Either you love it or you hate it. And you can decorate however you want. It's kind of like your house for the night. And it's one wedding at a time.
If you have the money check out Coindre Hall. I fell in love with it, but with the site fee and the cost pp it was too much for me.

Re: Reception site
Though I will agree EAB plaze is unique, (now called Reckson Plaza) my fi works over there and has seen it all set up he feels that it is cold feeling, Literally it is cold, but also the whole feel of it is more like an office fundraiser then a wedding.

This looks great. I can't open the site, though, through NYIT. Does anyone have any idea about pp price or rental fee?

Re: Reception site
For unique I suggest Atlantis Marine World (we would have booked there in a heartbeat if the price had been right), and Belmont Park (the racetrack). The mansions are different (Coindre Hall, deSeversky Center, Vanderbuilt [both of them - Oakdale & Centerport], Bourne Mansion, Harrison House, Oheka Castle, The Woodlands).
Others that are not your typical LI catering hall include The Old Field Club, Timber Point CC, George Washington Manor, and Stewart Manor CC.

If you don't mind me asking: Where are most of your guest coming from we liked WSCC but we have guest coming from Manhattan, Nassau, Westchester & my family from Suff... I'm concerned w/ travel time to WSCC..
